"I like him. He did a real good job. I have an old house which is hard to work on. Some plumbers would not come back the second time or leave the first time. My house goes back to 1847. He is very knowledgeable and he will tell you what needs to be done to do it right. He has had enough experience to know the way to do the things and how it should be done."

"My bathroom tub was leaking and I had a light switch stop working right around the same time in my house. I decided to replace these my self and decided to go to Nicholson Hardware. I was apprehensive about doing this plumbing on my own but thankfully the employees here are the most helpful crew you could ever meet. These guys are gurus! They not only knew the correct replacement stem for the tub but from the type of stem they could tell what neighborhood the house was from and when it was made! They also showed me the exact switch I needed as well. On each project they were able to verbally walk me through what to do. I've compared the parts sold here compared to the big box stores and they usually are the same price or lower and usually made in the USA. Forget the big box stores, save time and money at Nicholson's! <br />"

"Webster Bath Remodeling did a fantastic job!  Everything went according to schedule, except for a few minor delays that were entirely caused by the customer adding more work or changing scope of existing work.  The new bathroom is absolutely wonderful and the tile is a work of art.   Not only did Webster Bath Remolding do a great job on the bathroom, but they were extremely helpful with other things around the house.  Our project started before we moved in and ended after we were living in the house, and we couldn't have been happier to have Mike and Jeff around every day.  They took it upon themselves to help us out with countless items that needed a bit of work (at no additional charge) as they noticed them.  Mike called every afternoon with an update on how things were going and what was planned to be done next.  His communication and professionalism are fantastic and he and Jeff are great to work with.  Overall, Webster Bath Remodeling is unequivocally the best contractor I have ever worked with.  I can't say enough good things about them. <br />"

"Terry came to the rescue again! Recent projects he has handled for us inclide: 1. A deck update. Some boards were in need of replacing 2. A complete bathroom remodel. He took a jack and jill bathroom and turned it into a beautiful handicap accessible bathroom and a powder room. 3. Total roof replacement, code compliant. He even installed a new metal roof. 4. Various electrical projects. Certain outlets needed updating, as well as some wiring issues. 5. Using his connections to reputable tradesman with other skills. Terry either fixes it himself or uses his friends and connections to find other tradesman who can get the job done. Fir example, he used a tile man on the bathroom project."

"At my home, they replaced the shut off valve before the meter. They have the wrench to turn off the water at the property line. <br /> <br /> E.J.Gallagher Plumbing has been doing the majority of the plumbing repairs at the Winnebago County Court House and jail for 3 generations. When I was facilities manager for the County, when we called E.J.Gallagher, they were there, did the job right and were always reasonable when invoicing. <br /> <br /> Couldn't have asked for a better company to do business with, both commercial or home. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Machesney Park, IL

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
