"Everything went very well. My husband did the prep work they requested (removing paneling and drywall to 18 inches above the floor, cutting the wood studs to that level, and removing carpeting to six inches away from the wall). Two workers from Badger Basement came to our house and were completely done in only two hours. They jackhammered out the existing concrete slab, installed metal channels in the wall to drain any moisture out beyond the foundation, installed a sump pump in the room's closet, and poured fresh concrete to fill the new trench. All work done very professionally and thoroughly."

"If you are looking for a roofing company we highly recommend J & J Roofing and Remodeling Their work is reasonably priced and their crew is fantastic. They did a great job. It took them only a day and a half to complete the roofing on our home and garage. They are meticulous in their cleanup before leaving for the day and upon completion of the job. You can trust this company to get the job done in a timely manner and get it done right!"

"The experience began on a positive note. My wife and I chose Mark Farrahar for our project due to his familiarity with the town we live in and the fact that he had recently built some homes nearby Mark had a good sense of design and was very helpful in making our floor plan functional. We signed a contract with Reese Classic Residences; now known as Castle Rock Construction, in August of 2007. The contract had a "not to exceed dollar amount" for our remodel, including a detailed budget and warranty. Our problems began when the quotes began coming in over the contract budget. Mark refused to accept any responsibility for items going over budget and expected us to pay the additional costs. He clearly had no intention of covering the overages as per the contract. When we tried to discuss the contract with him, his demeanor changed and he became aggressive and he even threatened to have his subcontractors place liens on our house. The house was completed at the end of June 2008. We have been happy with the house; however, the lack of customer service from Mark Farrahar and Reese Classic Residence has been frustrating. We waited over two months to get the final inspection done for our Certificate of Occupancy. Mark refused to complete the work required to pass the final inspection and we still have several punch list items that need to be addressed."

"Very satisfied with cost and workmanship.  Original contact was to repair wind damage on shingled roof.  Unlike other roofing contractors I contacted, the response was fast.  The 40 plus years of experience showed as the temporary repair was done immediately without any hassle of cost.  The cause of the wind damage was shown and explained as improper nailing of shingles. To my surprise it was suggested, that because of a current materials special, it would be more cost effective to install a new metal roof over the old shingles rather than replacing the old shingles.  A new metal roof, with all of its advantages, cheaper than new shingles! <br /> I said I was interested, and they took a lot of measurements.  A couple days later I received an estimate via E-mail. I also asked about financing.  The only option was  like a credit card application (5% up front and high interest after 1 year).  After working out alternative financing from my bank, I then responded via E-mail to proceed.  They came out again and made more measurements. They wanted advanced payment for the materials with final payment upon completion. <br /> A couple weeks later the new metal roof install began.  It was a three man crew, they worked professionally, took their time and did it right.  The weather caused multiple delays extending the work over about 3 weeks.  The new roof is impressive, several people stopped by to ask for name of contractor. <br /> <br />"

"All in all looks ok. I am not happy with the overall. I wish he would come back and fix things. When money was owed to him and during job he responded very quickly, but now that he has been paid he does not return calls or texts. When I Di get him to respond it is short answers. Would not recommend. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Montreal, WI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
