"Middle Creek Roofing recently installed a new roof on our house and our shed. The company is very easy to deal with and their pricing is very reasonable. No matter who you talk to at Middle Creek Roofing whether it’s the salesman you meet at first or the receptionist at the office, everyone is very friendly, helpful and professional. If your lucky enough you will have Josh check in on your satisfaction. He is just TOP NOTCH!! He makes sure everything is done to your expectations. It’s not often anymore that people take pure pride in their work, but he certainly does!!! Every business out there today should have a Josh!! We highly recommend Middle Creek Roofing!!"

"Following a very successful asphalt shingle replacement job, I hired Juan and his crew to paint the interior of my home which they completed extremely well and then hired them to install fencing to keep my dogs contained in my yard. . "Our roof was in major need of repair due simply to weathering and age. After receiving several outrageous repair quotes, I remembered seeing a large sign on a wall advertising Union Roofers. I figured that I had nothing to lose, so I might as well give them a call. Patrick from Union Roofers came to our home to survey the extent of the damage and to provide a free estimate of all repairs needed. He was very professional and thorough with his assessment; he explained exactly what needed to be done to restore integrity and soundness to my roof. The day after Christmas, I received a courtesy call alerting me that they were on their way . They immediately began working upon arrival. They took pictures before, during, and after the repair work. I had the opportunity to meet their boss Frank, who made it a point to be on site to meet with me, the client, to review our contract, pricing and to set my mind at ease. Frank was super kind and professional. More importantly, there were no surprises in terms of price. Everything that he said needed to done was also quoted by the other outrageously priced roofers. Union Roofers has displayed an unparalleled level of professionalism coupled quality work and all at an affordable price. If you are in need of roof work, and you are looking for company that exhibits quality, integrity, professionalism and fair pricing, I highly and wholeheartedly recommend Union Roofers. They restored my roof and I am a happy camper. E Edwards"

"Was being proactive to replace 20 yr old asphalt roof obtaining quotes (~3700 sq. ft., pay by check). In midst of getting quotes roof leaked due to big storms in June 2019! Taking this into account in my quoting, Tycos offered to put tarp over leaking area for free until job starts. This was one of my deciding factors to go with Tycos. John on sales end was by far the most pleasant of all quotes I got, not pushy, quick meeting, and was the only one that came with satellite estimate of roof details to give accurate estimate. Once down payment given, it was a bit disconcerting that it took them 4 days to get promised tarp on roof (the longer the wait, the more potential ceiling drywall damage from rains). John also left the impression that there would be a site supervisor involved during the whole process. This was absolutely not the case. The site supervisor Jon (no "h") called to let me know the day crew was arriving. On day install began, only the crew was present (nice guys, worked exceedingly hard from ~7:30a to sundown). After first day, crew said nothing and just left. There was zero communication on how much longer project would take at end of first day. I would not have taken the full day off work if I knew this. It ended up taking 2 full days given size of roof. After first day, my sons and I in the evening took advantage of rented dumpster to throw out some old stuff around home we did not need. Walking to/from house/dumpster my shoe got stabbed twice with nails. I had to visually make sure driveway was clear so my car tires would not get stabbed going to work the next morning. Jon the site supervisor spent a total ~15 minutes at home AFTER job was finished to quickly hop on roof to look at completed job and collect the final payment. Final cost ended up being $4.30 per sqr. ft. for CertainTeed Landmark shingles and 20 year Tycos workmanship warranty. Overall, I would recommend Tycos, but site supervisor needs to be more communicative and active during install."

"Gary and his team gutted and expanded bathrooms, installed wood floors, installed smart toilets, replaced countertops, kitchen sinks, electrical work, installed a whole house generator, installed ductless systems in areas of the house that needed additional heating /AC as well as replaced a few windows. "Exceptional work by the team at M.R. Hunter. Old cedar siding removed, new PVC siding installed. The new siding retained the look of the original wood with the advantages of a maintenance free material. The MR Hunter team was professional, listened to any concerns, maintained a clean work site, showed up and worked full days. We are enjoying the new siding and highly recommend MR Hunter."

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in New Castle, DE

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
