"Preferred Construction remodeled several bathrooms, a kitchen, and installed flooring in our basement. There show up on time, are reasonably priced, communicated with me every step of the way, and their work is flawless. I could not have been more pleased and would recommend them to anyone."

"<p>  We are in the Northern Virginia area and this business is based out of the Roanoke area. This was not a concern as the Northern Virginia area is serviced by Seal-Tite. . Mark, the estimator arrived on time and explained how we did not need a system proposed by another company which cost much more than what Seal-Tite offered. Mark explained the process and left us with a price to discuss. I felt like Mark listened to what type of repair I was requesting and did not try to add services that we did not need or weren't interested in.  After having two other companies visit we asked Mark to come back and give us an estimate if the cracks were repaired from the outside. Originally we had discussed repairing them from the inside since the dry wall had already been removed and the cracks were assessable from the inside. Mark readily agreed to return and a second estimate was given. I felt like repairing them from the outside was what we wanted since the water comes in from the outside. </p> <p>   Seal-Tite called to schedule our appointment and called Miss Utility since digging was taking place on the outside of our home at the location of each crack. Three workers arrived on time and started hand digging the sites down to the footers as outlined on the contract. Cracks in our concrete foundation were sealed with hydraulic cement and covered with a swell-tite membrane. This was covered with another material and the dirt was returned. The men worked quickly and allowed me to ask questions as they worked. One crack was repaired on the inside basement wall due to wiring outside the crack. This was discussed when Mark was giving an estimate and there was no confusion with the warranty difference or process.  Items inside the basement were covered with plastic to contain any dust as the crack was sanded and plastic was placed on the floor to catch the mud from the rainy day. </p> <p>    Seal -Tite provided the exact service that I was looking for when searching for waterproofing services. I did not want a drain added or a total foundation waterproofing project .I will certainly call on them again if the need arises. </p> <p>   Thank you, Mark, Mike, C.J.,Derek and Stacy for making this repair an easy process!</p> D <br />"

"First of all, Roger Roten, the B'Dry sales rep was great. Presented their product and their capabilities well and provided very prompt support after the contract was signed. I did the prep work (taking down drywall, etc.) and he responded to my email questions quickly after any inquiry. They scheduled the job for 5/13/2016 and said they would arrive between 8 and 10 AM. Received a call from their installation lead man at 8 am that day to tell me they were coming from Greensboro, NC and would be their by 10. They arrived at 9:45 and immediately went to work. The team included 3 men with "David" acting as the lead man. In looking at the materials that they were to install, it was obvious that everything was high quality; high gauge steel, impressive sump pump, etc. They finished the job and left around 7 pm that day. They did a good job of cleaning up the site before leaving. One thing that really impressed me was that there was no concrete dust all over every thing from the jackhammers. They put up plastic sheeting throughout the basement and covered all furniture and wall hangings. In addition, they used a large fan with flexible plastic tubing to suck the dust to outside. They were careful in their work and nothing was damaged in the finished basement. When they tested the sump pump, the water came out of the basement at a prodigious rate. I believe one could have put a couple of hoses into the sump hole, run them at full blast and the pump would have easily kept up with the water volume coming from those hoses. Their price was not the lowest, but I think it was a fair price given the quality of the materials, workmanship and the accompanying guarantee."

"We were greeted and helped by Angela Jordan when we arrived. She helped guide us to different types of carpet we might like based on our preferences. Once the carpet was chosen the process was very fast + simple and the carpet was ordered at a very reasonable price. About a week later we got a call saying the carpet was in so we set an install date for about 3 days down the road. The installers arrived on time and we're very professional and proficient at their jobs. They answered all of my questions and managed to get the job done in about 3 hours. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and I would recommend the company to any of my friends that are in the market for any type of flooring!"

"In July, our basement was damaged by water from a backed up sump pump, and Jenkins Restorations (specifically, the project manager Jeremy Gaston) helped us every step of the way with restoring our basement to its original condition. His patience and attention to detail in explaining the steps of the repair process and keeping in touch with us throughout the repair made the process easy and stress-free. He made sure we understood the work being done and provided a realistic (and convenient) timeline for its completion, working around our work and recreational plans. Thanks to Jeremy's professionalism and the excellent quality of his team's work on the paint and flooring we were pleased beyond our expectations with the finished product. The basement is even better than before. <br />"

"No complaints. They put the shed up in less than 2 days. Looks great and I have already started to fill it up. Got a quote for some basement framing work seems fair but I need to get other quotes to be sure."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Tappahannock, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
