Carpet

Carpet has always been a popular choice when flooring any room in the house. In fact, carpet is as fashionable as ever since it comes in so many different styles, colors, and fabrics, which only creates a larger price range so that it is affordable in any house. Carpet is also so prevalent also because of its comfort level. It creates a visual and physical warmth to any room, and therefore it can act as a natural form of insulation during the winter months.

So you made the right choice in putting new carpet in your own home. However, when the carpet contractors come to install, there may be some disturbances you'll have to endure. But as long as you follow our instructions, these disruptions can be kept to a minimum.

The Mess
In order to install the new carpet, the contractors will have to rip up the old flooring. This will create a bit of a mess for a short time, and there will most certainly be dust floating around, especially if you have pre-existing carpet that is being removed. So if you are susceptible to allergens, you may want to leave the house for the day. Maybe have the contractors arrive while you're at work and the kids are at school. Or if the carpet installation will happen on a weekend, plan for some daytime activities such as picnic, going to the mall, or a day-trip to see friends and family. Don't worry though: the carpet can usually be installed in a short period of time, so by the time you get back home everything in the air will have settled down again.

The Smell
Your contractors may use some adhesives to secure the carpet, so if a funky odor arises in your house, don't worry about it: it'll go away. Also, just like buying a new car, new carpet may also have an overpowering "fresh" smell to it. Therefore, it is always a good idea to create some ventilation in your house for yourself and the installers. If it's nice outside, open a window. If it's winter, or if you're gone for the weekend, maybe have a fan at the ready and turn up your heating/air-conditioning unit so that some air is moving around.

The Noise
As in any home improvement project, there may be some racket during your carpet installation. The contractors will be hammering, stretching, and stapling the carpet in place, so get ready for it. Once again, maybe make sure you and the family are gone while the project is taking place. If the installation does happen on a weekend, remember that this probably isn't the best occasion for naptime or to watch the game. In any case, the room where the work is occurring will be out of commission for awhile, so try to plan ahead and make sure you won't be in the contractors' way during the carpet installation.

Carpet Installation Tips
Remember that once you install new carpet, any doors leading into the room may drag a little. Talk to your contractor about this possible dilemma and see if they can add it into their services. They may simply have to re-hang the door or trim them, but it is a detail worth bringing up. Also, once again, make sure there is plenty of ventilation into the room while the old flooring is being removed, the new carpet is being installed, and afterwards make sure to sustain the direct ventilation for 48-72 hours to ensure proper airing.

The Final Result
Though there may be some nuisances during the actual installation, the final product is well worth the minor disturbances. Luckily, carpet will probably take no more than one day to install and a couple days to set. So in no time you will be able to enjoy your new flooring; you just have to be patient in the meantime by finding temporary alternative ways of living.
