"I would recommend Preston and Mallard Mechanical to anybody in the area looking to buy a new furnace/AC, or even just general HVAC maintenance. We closed on our house on a Friday with the AC not working and the furnace on its way out. We called Mallard Mechanical that morning and the equipment was ordered that same day and the install scheduled for the following Tuesday. The day of the install Preston was on site right on time and got our old AC and furnace torn out and the new system put in all in the same day. He was extremely professional and kept a VERY clean work site. He made sure to go over everything about the new system with my wife and I and even took care of setting up the city inspection for the new system. Last but absolutely not least, Mallard Mechanical's prices are extremely fair and I cannot imagine finding better service anywhere else for as good of a price as we got with Mallard Mechanical. Thank you again to Preston and Mallard Mechanical!"

"The electrician kept talking about unrelated issues and trying to sell me additional services rather than focusing on diagnosing the actual problem I have."

"Vitaliy (service tech) came out for a service call to find the leak that caused my AC to not working properly. He checked the entire system extensively and found the leak in a connection. He showed me proof of the leak and fixed it. I also explained to him that there is a floor vent that hasnâ t blown air since we had install a new furnace/AC. He went under the house and found that the flow tube was not properly connected to the vent housing. This was not part of the original service call, but he did it anyway. Vitaliy is a very personable and respectful person. I always have questions and he doesnâ t make me feel like itâ s a bother to answer them. I highly recommend Vitaliy as your service tech"

"Amazingly easy! John came out to see me, explaining things in a way I could understand. No high pressure sales. Just the facts. My new Trane furnace and air were installed within 2 days, all while I was at work! I would have never believed they were there until I actually went to see the new equipment! Best experience with real pros. I highly recommend!"

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
