"I recently had Prolific Mechanical install a new air conditioning system, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The young man who completed the installation was professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. He took pride in his work, kept everything clean, and made sure the installation was done correctly from start to finish. The new system runs flawlessly and keeps the house comfortable even on the hottest days. I highly recommend Prolific Mechanical to anyone looking for quality workmanship and dependable HVAC service."

"We recently purchased a new home furnace and central air through Total Comfort Heating/Home Depot to replace our 47 year old Lennox. Total Comfort provided great communication as to the process and scheduling of the installation. The Techs notified us when they were on their way for the installation which was one day before a serious snow storm was coming through. Upon arrival they were a little set back by the age and installation of the existing furnace. They eagerly jumped on the task which was being done in conjunction with gas conversion from propane to natural gas and a new hot water heater which required running a new gas line to the exterior of the house. They worked non-stop and by the end of the day they completed everything with the exception of connecting up the air conditioner. I believe the techs went far and beyond there scope of work including bringing our hot water up to code, They provided advice and the know how to improve the air in our home with this new machine which I have completed with a noticeable difference. I highly recommend this company and will be utilizing their services in the future"

FAQs for air conditioning projects in Mayer, MN

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
