"I moved into a new (older) home and had Scott inspect the AC/heating. He was very personable, knowledgeable and polite. He took the time to explain everything and and made future recommendations but did not push. He fixed a couple of minor problems and we'll see how that works. Would hire again."

"While having our air ducts cleaned, mildew was discovered on the inside the supply plenum on our A/C unit in the attic (possibly from all the moisture Harvey dumped on us for days). Although the unit was only four years old, we decided it was best to replace it before it got worse. To hopefully avoid this type of problem in the future, we wanted to install some form of UV light in the plenum after it's replacement, but we were very concerned about the ozone that's released into the home's air from some of these types of lights. Matthew from Air Specialist listened and addressed all of our concerns about UV lights, and gave us information about each type on the market and which ones would address our concerns. After research, we decided on one of the Lennox UV lights and Matthew installed it for us. So far we've had no problems with this UV light, and we continue to be happy with Air Specialist's work."

"I had a fantastic experience with Coastal Comfort Heating & Air Conditioning. From the first phone call to the final walkthrough, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about getting the job done right. They replaced my old HVAC system with a brand-new, energy-efficient unit and walked me through every step of the process. The crew showed up on time, worked neatly, and finished the install faster than expected. They even took the time to explain the thermostat setup and left the area spotless. It’s rare to find a company that’s this responsive and transparent — no hidden costs, no upselling, just solid work from a local team that stands behind what they do. I highly recommend Coastal Comfort to anyone in Galveston or the surrounding area looking for quality HVAC service or a new system installation."

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
