"The service from Bamford Plumbing & Heating Inc. went great. He kept his scheduled appointments and had no need to come back because he did everything 100% the first time through. He is a general plumber, but his knowledge of boilers was exceptional, I learned a lot."

"I was experiencing low water flow to my 3rd floor bedroom. Since the house is 100 years old, I assumed that the only way to repair the problem was to replace the water service lines which would have been very expensive. Brian came to the house and identified the source of the problem as the water pressure regulator. Brian replaced the regulator, drained and refilled the lines to remove air bubbles. The problem was repaired. Given the age of the house and the location of the problem most contractors would have told me I needed to replace the pipes to the 3rd floor. Brian identified the real problem and in the process saved me a lot of money. Great Job."

"Our central air unit quit working late last night. I searched for a repair person, this morning, on Angie's list, selected AJB. They contacted me within minutes, texted back and forth, was told that they could be out this afternoon. They just left here, the unit is working fine. I am very pleased with the service and advice on our very old system. I would definitely use them again."

"We had Mr. Portillo Install an air conditioner in my sons apartment. He came right over, knew exactly what to do, installed the parts and put the air conditioner in the window. I live in Los Angeles, and my son lives in Baltimore. I found Mr. Portillo on the Angi site, and not knowing anything about his skills or business, he contacted me, let me know this is something he could do, so I asked him to do the job. Mr. Portillo was EXCELLENT, great ay customer services, and took care of business. I highly recommend Mr. Portillo as highly skilled and a great person to do business with!!"

"When itâ s the heat of the summer and you come home to no AC itâ s never going to be good. From my initial call I had someone address my issue within hours. A very punctual, professional, polite and knowledgeable man came to my door. He gave me my options and I felt very comfortable with what we decided yo do. He said what we needed in exactly the time frame he thought it would take and once again showed up at the exact time he said he would. He truly went above and beyond what our expectations were. We are very happy and would certainly recommend Forest Hill Heating and Air to anyone."

We are not happy unless you are happy! We look forward to bringing you our quality of work and excellence to your homes. Why would you look anywhere else?
Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
