"I cannot recommend Jorge (owner) and his team highly enough. I had a pretty small job - digging out a a 250 sq ft gravel parking area and filling it with topsoil to convert to a garden. Jorge was easy to work with, he made great suggestions about drainage, slope, and soil type, and got the job done much faster than I expected. If I had gotten a landscape company to do this, they would have charged me double what he did. Atlas would be a great choice for landscape projects that primarily involve excavation, grading, and new garden beds. Atlas is fantastic. I hope I can find another reason to hire them!"

Small jobs welcome

"Outstanding customer service. Excellent communicator. Kept me informed about when he was available and actually offered to come a few days early since he finished another job. The job was to level a 30x40 area so I could install a large wooden swing set. There was about a 20" drop from front to back. He cut the back and filled the front so he didn't have to bring in any new fill or haul any away. This saved a lot of money. When he was done it was within a 1/2". He made sure by checking it with a rotating laser. He has new and well maintained equipment and state of the art tools. I've been in construction for 40 years. Believe me, this guy knows his stufff."

"We had to have all the sewer/drain lines replaced under our concrete slab. After the plumbing company finished their work, Jose and his team removed the excess dirt in the trenches, placed crushed stone, and poured 4" of concrete in about 30 feet of trenches. They cleaned up everything after they were done. Very pleased with Jose and his teamn."

"We had major hurricane damage from hurricane Helene, where our entire land was devastated with hundreds maybe even thousands of trees. Dylan and his team came in and worked efficiently and proficiently received suggestions and when we had concerns, they went above and beyond to complete the job. We plan to have them back in the future for more projects."

FAQs for excavation projects in Charlotte, NC

Depth depends on the type of installation and the regulations in your area. Water supply lines typically require 24 inches, while drainage pipes are often installed 36 inches below grade. For most general projects, a depth of 12 to 24 inches and a width of about eight inches is sufficient. Sticking to these specs keeps your utilities safe, code-compliant, and easier to maintain later.

When you need to run utilities underground, you’ve got two main options: boring or trenching. Boring employs directional drilling to install utilities without exposing a continuous channel, while trenching requires excavating an open channel to place utilities securely. Directional drilling preserves landscape integrity, whereas trenching provides direct access for installation, albeit with greater surface disruption. This clear comparison helps you select the method best suited to your project.

Plan on 12 hours to dig 100 linear feet when the soil is cooperative and you can work continuously. This timeframe applies when work is performed consistently and methodically. Factors such as rocky soil, tree roots, obstructions, and frozen ground increase the overall duration, demanding extra planning and effort. Comprehensive operational planning ensures that every challenge is managed efficiently and the project is completed on schedule.

If you want your yard to look untouched, laying fresh sod over the trench is the quickest fix. New sod needs 30 to 45 days to root and blend with the rest of your lawn. A local sod pro can provide you with a firm timeline and tips to ensure the grass takes hold and maintains your curb appeal.
