Dillon established In-Depth Excavation in 2018 following years of experience. What started as a side job for family and friends turned into an ambitious passion and career. Dillon served on the 24-hour on-call duty rotation team for five years. At his First-panel interview he was offered an entry-level position with Alderwood Water and Wastewater District (AWWD). Dillon advanced through the ranks, exceeded qualifications, and was the youngest to be promoted to Utility Worker Lead in company history.\nIn December 2017, Dillon was presented with the Arden Blackledge “Excellence in Leadership” award which is the highest annual honor given at AWWD.\n\nHe was employed by various contractors working on storm, water, sewer mains, demo, plus grading and restoring for two years. Dillon proudly serves Western Washington and is on course for growth to establish In-Depth Excavation as a competitor in diverse markets.

"Very responsive to inquiry. Flexible scheduling. Excellent equipment. We ran out of crushed rock and owner used own trailer to secure more material since other suppliers were booked. He spread that rock With great skill in tight area."

"Josh and Zach are fantastic! They can do anything! Building on heavily treed undeveloped acreage. The built the construction road, dug foundation pits, cleared brush, thinned trees, dug trenches for water lines and electric conduit. They work directly with other contractors and county to get specs, handle inspections, ask questions. Very professional, highest quality work, reasonably priced. I have never worked with a better contractor!"

"Randy and team did an excellent job on our walkway. They were prompt, stayed in close communication, and were ready to go when the weather allowed. Our walkway looks fantastic and is safe which was our primary concern. We couldn't be happier and would highly recommend!"

Small jobs welcome

"Totally professional, cordial, & detail oriented. Many thanks to Paul and Ron for doing such a fantastic job! Our large fuel tank had shifted underground, but they handled the unusual situation well. Dig site looks perfect, as though untouched. Too bad we only had 1 fuel tank, because I'd gladly hire them again.Paul even arranged to have our oil burner picked up by someone that may be able to reuse it. Thank you!"

"I have had the pleasure of working with the owner of this excavation company on a residential project, and the service was exemplary. He went out of his way to help with the preparation of the house, making sure everything was in order before the continuation of work. Knowledgeable, efficient, and clear, he kept us updated every step of the way. The attention to detail and willingness to accommodate changed everything and were the reason I would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of reliable professional work."

FAQs for excavation projects in Kirkland, WA

Depth depends on the type of installation and the regulations in your area. Water supply lines typically require 24 inches, while drainage pipes are often installed 36 inches below grade. For most general projects, a depth of 12 to 24 inches and a width of about eight inches is sufficient. Sticking to these specs keeps your utilities safe, code-compliant, and easier to maintain later.

When you need to run utilities underground, you’ve got two main options: boring or trenching. Boring employs directional drilling to install utilities without exposing a continuous channel, while trenching requires excavating an open channel to place utilities securely. Directional drilling preserves landscape integrity, whereas trenching provides direct access for installation, albeit with greater surface disruption. This clear comparison helps you select the method best suited to your project.

Plan on 12 hours to dig 100 linear feet when the soil is cooperative and you can work continuously. This timeframe applies when work is performed consistently and methodically. Factors such as rocky soil, tree roots, obstructions, and frozen ground increase the overall duration, demanding extra planning and effort. Comprehensive operational planning ensures that every challenge is managed efficiently and the project is completed on schedule.

If you want your yard to look untouched, laying fresh sod over the trench is the quickest fix. New sod needs 30 to 45 days to root and blend with the rest of your lawn. A local sod pro can provide you with a firm timeline and tips to ensure the grass takes hold and maintains your curb appeal.
