"A couple of visits to view and measure the project area. Then one more the day before with a start time of about 0820. Start to finish was about four hours. This crew was so fun to watch. The truck driver delivered twice and even grabbed a shovel and pitched in. They all laughed and joked and appeared to have good time working hard on our driveway. Super impressed and will bring them back in the spring for repairs on the old asphalt. Highly recommend!!"

"The project went amazingly! Nick was very easy to work with, took the time to explain the entire process, and was very transparent about the costs. The crew was always on time, worked diligently, and before I knew it, the work was done! Nick’s bid was very affordable, but it would have been well worth it if his bid had been the highest. I highly recommend EIB to anyone who wants a contractor who is reliable, honest, punctual, competent, performs high-quality work, has quick response times, charges a fair price, and completes the job on time!"

"Ken, is awesome! He is friendly, easy to talk to, and will take care of all your needs. I hired Ken to excavate my front lawn for landscaping. He and his professional helper/excavator, Gearmo, took measurements of my front, backyard and determined the grade of my front lawn using a laser to match the grade of my residential street in front of my house. Ken, also removed some stumps in my backyard, did some grading around my septic tanks, and moved my tough shed in my backyard. Ken prices are good, you definitely get what you pay for. I most definitely would use Tannahill Construction LLC for my excavation needs and recommend him to anyone. My yard and house look amazing, thanks to both of you. Take care and God bless!"

"I highly recommend NestEx LLC. We needed a gravel pad prepared for 2 sheds on very short notice, and he truly saved the day. Despite the tight timeline, he went out of his way to accommodate us by coming out on a Saturday to get the job done. His professionalism and attention to detail were evident from the moment he started. He meticulously dug out the soil and leveled the entire area before taking his time to expertly layer layer and compact the gravel. You can tell he takes immense pride in his work; the base is rock-solid and perfectly even. What impressed me the most was his thoughtfulness. After finishing a thorough cleanup of the area, he was gracious enough enough to cover the entire pad to protect it from the incoming rain. He wanted to ensure the gravel wouldn’t be compromised so it could harden properly- a level of care you rarely see. If you want someone reliable, hardworking, and genuinely dedicated to quality, look no further. 5 stars all the way."

FAQs for excavation projects in Spanaway, WA

Depth depends on the type of installation and the regulations in your area. Water supply lines typically require 24 inches, while drainage pipes are often installed 36 inches below grade. For most general projects, a depth of 12 to 24 inches and a width of about eight inches is sufficient. Sticking to these specs keeps your utilities safe, code-compliant, and easier to maintain later.

When you need to run utilities underground, you’ve got two main options: boring or trenching. Boring employs directional drilling to install utilities without exposing a continuous channel, while trenching requires excavating an open channel to place utilities securely. Directional drilling preserves landscape integrity, whereas trenching provides direct access for installation, albeit with greater surface disruption. This clear comparison helps you select the method best suited to your project.

Plan on 12 hours to dig 100 linear feet when the soil is cooperative and you can work continuously. This timeframe applies when work is performed consistently and methodically. Factors such as rocky soil, tree roots, obstructions, and frozen ground increase the overall duration, demanding extra planning and effort. Comprehensive operational planning ensures that every challenge is managed efficiently and the project is completed on schedule.

If you want your yard to look untouched, laying fresh sod over the trench is the quickest fix. New sod needs 30 to 45 days to root and blend with the rest of your lawn. A local sod pro can provide you with a firm timeline and tips to ensure the grass takes hold and maintains your curb appeal.
