"Very organized company from quote to finished project and for a fair price. Clarke, the owner, is fantastic with his engaging yet direct demeanor and extensive knowledge that made the entire process comfortable and effortless. His team kept the worksite clean, well organized and most importantly, provided additional protection for my new A/C unit to prevent damage. The work done to my 102 year old home was extensive with brick pointing the walls, two chimneys pointed, and building a wall to block off the former entry door to a demolished room ( a special thank you to Mark Sullivan and his team at LS Services for the demolition, Clarke referred me to LS Services) with bricks that exactly matched the wall. The timeline quote Clarke presented for the project was exact at 12 days which instills trust and confidence and willing to refer Phillips Masonry to my friends and family as well as hiring them again for any future projects."

"Daniel’s young apprentice, Sam came out for the job first but didn’t have the right equipment to inspect my narrower wood stove chimney. He didn’t make excuses, handled the stress of it professionally, and apologized profusely. Daniel arrived and went over everything after the inspection with pics and did a thorough cleaning and made a few future recommendations. Due to the inconvenience, he refused to charge me. Even when I tried to give him some money he was emphatic stating that making me happy was his priority and that my review was the best way to keep him in business! That’s above and beyond service! It’s hard to find contractors/companies who are attentive to detail, take pride in their work, responsive, show up on time, clean up the site, communicative, respectful, and just simply kind… KUDOS Daniel and Sam, my new chimney sweeps!!"

At Baptiste Masonry we take great pride in every job we do like it was our own home. With 25 years experience I have seen a lot of beautiful work done by others and I have also seen a lot of not so good work. My goal for my customers is for them to be 100% satisfied and have a smile on their face when the work is complete. The job is not complete until that happens. In my years in the trade I have been fortunate enough to learn not just how to lay brick on a wall I have been part of some really great projects and really great people which I have learned a great deal and would love the opportunity to show my customers the great job I can do for them.

"The technician was personable, and professional. He protected our floors when he did the chimney and fireplace cleaning and made recommendations that were based on the safety of using our chimney and fireplace rather than on his desire to sell a product. He is extremely knowledgeable about what he does and is not in such a hurry that he wouldn't explain or answer questions. The work was done efficiently and we are most pleased with it. I was particularly impressed with his commitment to our satisfaction and enjoyed learning about him and his family. Highly recommended for any kind of chimney work."

"I have an 85-year-old house with a stone foundation. As tends to happen with these old houses, the mortar had become cracked and was falling apart. I hired rockwood to repair the mortar tuck points and to build a new retaining wall on the side of my yard. They did absolutely beautiful work! Very nice and professional. I am so happy with their work, I’m going to use them again to build another wall."
Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.
Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.
Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.
Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.
Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
