"Our gas fireplace insert was not working consistently. The technicians came and took measurements and gave options for returning to an open wood burning fire or a wood burning insert. They removed the gas insert and from their information, I know I need a wood burning fireplace insert. They also cleaned the fireplace and flue system. Excellent work! I will re-hire them to repair the brickwork, crown and flashing."

"Fantastic!!! John came on 3/28 to diagnose refrigerator repair/part needed to be ordered. Set up that repair for 4/2 and found out he did gas fireplace cleaning and check ups. He cleaned both fireplaces and replaced the part in my refrigerator on 4/2. He was on time, responsive to all questions and did a super job. I highly recommend him and will use him again!"

CHIMNEY INSPECTIONS LEVEL 1 AND LEVEL 2\nWE DO NOT SERVICE GAS FIREPLACES\n\nChimney Rebuilds\nWhen deterioration of the chimney reaches the point of no return, the solution is a tear-down and rebuild. A partial chimney rebuild can be done in cases where a portion of the structure is salvageable. All rebuilds include installation of a new concrete chimney crown.\n\nChimney Liners\nChimney liners provide an extra layer of protection between the chimney wall and your home. This additional protection is critical, as defects commonly appear in the chimney wall, beginning a process that gradually erodes the chimney. As the chimney wall gives way to deterioration, the potential arises for the infiltration of smoke and gases into your home, as well as damage

"Very well, it was a complicated installation with the existing fireplace having to be cut out with a torch and with both natural gas and electric lines run to the fireplace. Everything got done on time and looks exactly as advertised despite the additional subcontractors required to do the job."

"From start to finish, we had a good experience with Fireside Hearth and Home. The store sales staff: very knowledgeable -- they had good information and suggestions but let us make the final decisions without pressure. The installers: neat, courteous, and very accurate  -- an especially welcome skill as they made holes in our wall to vent the stove pipe out and run the gas line in. The scheduler: a true gem -- she cheerfully juggled staff to guarantee our established start-up date.
This is the second purchase we've made at the Eden Prairie store (we had a corner fireplace installed in our upper level 15 years ago), and we would not hesitate to go there again if we ever want a similar type product installed.

I bought two fireplaces. Here is my experience. I was a

mixed bag with both some good points and a problem.

First I got a quote from the Minnetonka store. The sales rep

was excellent, but I didn’t really understand the rest of the sale process. The

store’s quote is contingent on a pre-installer coming out and reviewing your

property. So its really not a quote like other vendors. This pre-installer told

me the specification for the fireplace that the salesperson said would fit and

the manufacturer specification of the fireplace was wrong.  He increased the price and gave me less of a

fireplace. It felt like bait and switch. He was also less than truthful and

didn’t tell me my options. After a bad experience with the pre-installer I

called the sale rep and she was able to get some help after a fairly involved

process of checking with an installation supervisor. Again she was a trooper.

But this took a fair amount of time.

I ended up paying a higher price and only got part of what I

wanted. But by the time that happened I was pretty far into the process. Home

and Hearth’s process is very rigid and not consumer friendly. It took a week

and a half for the pre-installer to come out and about a month and one-half

before the installation. Some of this may be due to the fact it is a product

that is installed in your home. The installation crew was excellent.

My price ended up about $1000 higher than was originally

quoted. That made the difference between the next vendor and Home and Hearth

about $2000 higher for identical equipment.  I got things worked out sort of, but it cost

me more money, lots of time consuming hassle and felt I wasn’t told the total

truth about some important factors.

FAQs for fireplace and wood stove service projects in Howard Lake, MN

Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.

Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.

Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.

Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.

Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
