"Chris was professional. Adrian was pleasant as well. The two worked well together. Chris explained what they were doing before he started. Originally I called to have 2 flues cleaned but had a steel tube inserted in wood stove flue. Chris explained my options and answered my questions. I am happy with the experience."

"We hired Josh to completely transform our fireplace area and couldn’t be happier with the results. From the initial inspection to the final install, everything was explained clearly and handled professionally. The stonework and stove setup came out absolutely beautiful and completely changed the feel of the room. Josh was clean, punctual, and took real pride in his work. The before and after difference is night and day. I’d highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality chimney or stove work done right."

"We had a great experience with Shamrock. My husband is an architect and pretty much knew what needed to be done to remove a wood burning stove from our fireplace and restore it to a working fireplace before anyone arrived to give us a quote. We had several contractors come by and try to tack on extra unnecessary add ons using scare tactics. Gary from Shamrock came and not only was he honest about what needed to be done he also assessed that we needed some repair work done to our chimney which my husband already knew had to be done. We were very pleased with the removal of the wood burning stove , the chimney repair and his promptness and professionalism. Honesty goes a long way especially when you are unaware of what the clients knowledge of the situation is. I would highly recommend and ask for Gary."

"My experience with Pacific Stone and Tile was a positive one. There were a few things that I wish were done differently, but nothing major. The gentleman that does the measurements came out to our house on the day that was scheduled and took all necessary measurements. While measuring, he told me that the current counter tops were leaving too much space between the cabinet base and the stove on either side and asked if I wanted it to be closer, as it should be done. I, of course, said yes and expected a tighter fitting for the stove. Once the measurements were taken, we scheduled installation to be done one week later. During that time, we were to choose a granite to have installed and when I told him that I wanted to choose the granite slab, he was kind enough to send me to a location they do business with that is a much shorter commute for me. The people at the granite warehouse were absolutely fantastic. So kind and helpful. . . Direct Granite Importers in Woburn, MA.
The only two problems that developed during the course of that week were being told that our small kitchen would have a seem because of the way that the slab was cut for the space and they showed up several hours later than scheduled for installation without so much as a courtesy phone call. The seem issue was solved quickly - I told them that I would rather keep our existing counter tops that do not have a seem than to change the color and have a hideous seem that would definitely be noticeable in such a small space. The gentleman that I was working with from Pacific Stone and Granite, told me he would see what he could do and get back to me. He called me back promptly with a solution - the granite dealer let him purchase half a slab and would charge me $250 additional to complete the install without a seem. That solution worked for me so we moved forward. The day of the install, we were scheduled in the morning but as afternoon approached, I had heard nothing. Of course this is extremely annoying when your whole day is wasted because you are waiting for someone to show up. I finally called and was told that their machine broke earlier in the week so everyone was pushed back and his staff would be that late afternoon. It was really inconsiderate to not let us know and I think lack of communication is always bad business. Anyways, the two men showed up for install - they very simply popped the existing counter tops off and replaced them with beautiful, flawless counter tops that I love. They were very clean, very quick and efficient. I was so pleased with them that I drove to an ATM so I would be able to tip them for doing such a good job.

FAQs for fireplace and wood stove service projects in Mechanic Falls, ME

Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.

Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.

Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.

Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.

Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
