"Randy replaced a deteriorating wood back porch with new cement steps. The job turned out great. Randy has done a lot of work for my property management company at different addresses around Royal Oak and Birmingham. He’s respectful, responsive, and does good work. I would highly recommend him."

"My experience was wonderful! Chris, the technician was prompt, courteous and thorough. Chris did a meticulous tune up. He was knowledgeable. When he was done, the area was totally cleaned up. The company called the next day to follow up appointment and to make sure I was satisfied. Will definitely use them for my yearly gas fireplace tune up or repairs if needed. Thank you!"

"

Very pleased and satisfied with the response and work. Called to schedule an estimate for work based on a prior chimney sweep from another company and Jerimiah came out the next day and provided a very detailed and through explanation of the issues and what could be done to solve it.  Forgot to have him inspect the outside of the chimney so he came back a couple days later and inspected the outside and found that we had mortar erosion.  Scheduled work the very next day to install HeatShield inside the chimney and address the mortar issues on the outside.  The heatshield looks great as does the exterior mortar work.  Excited to use the chimney again not that it is not a fire or carbon monoxide hazard anymore.

"Arrived on-time. Explained the process. Calmed my fears of a mess in the living room. Explained the reside (creosote from wood fires and black ash from natural gas fires). Process was fast and professional. Clean-up was excellent.

As a double check, I laid a white paper note pad on the table adjacent to the fireplace. There was no residue on it when the job was finished. Excellent job.

"This was my first experience getting my chimney cleaned. Lee arrived early, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and did a great job! He protected the area surrounding the fireplace to prevent anything from getting on the furniture. I will be using Lee for any of my fireplace needs and recommending him to my family, friends, and neighbors. Thanks Lee!!!

FAQs for fireplace and wood stove service projects in New Haven, MI

Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.

Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.

Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.

Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.

Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
