"Jason with Dad's Garage Door came out and repaired our "vintage" garage doors. They were the old style pull down doors and the springs had gotten out of adjustment. The doors would not close all the way down and one would not stay up and open. We were told that we would have to have new garage doors by another company because you couldn't get those springs anymore. Jason repaired the old ones for us and saved us about $3500.00. Told us if we have any other problems just call him and he will come back out. We would highly recommend him for any type of garage door repair."

"The customer service was very professional and prompt. However, I do think the price was TOO HIGH! It could have been done for no more than $2,000. In addition some of the edge under the garage door should have been finished better."

"I had a broken garage door spring. I checked the parts cost using Amazon to get a guess of the cost and found Veteran was spot on with what I expected. Plus they had a lifetime warranty for a nominal fee. Found their customer service was very professional and kept me informed on the status of their technicians. Received word they could come earlier than my appointment which was helpful. They did a great job. We’re very satisfied."

FAQs for garage and garage door service projects in Cedar Hill, TX

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.

Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.

A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.

Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.

A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.

Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.

If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
