"We had an excellent experience with Controlling Systems from the first phone call to our install. All the professionals were prompt, friendly and hard working. We had a lot of questions throughout the process and they answered every one. The prices seem right in line with the industry and we were overall very happy with their work."

"Walter and Jodi expertly replaced our hot water heater with a quality brand. He gave me several options to fit my needs/ price range. The system works great and he even came back the next day to check they everything was working right. Heâ s a little pricey but he doesnâ t cut corners and follows the plumbing code. Very satisfied and Iâ d hire him again."

Small jobs welcome

"I speak very highly of this company because of the way the companies goals and values align with my own. I worked on acoustical soundboard panel fabrication for their executive hangar project. As well as supporting solar thermal, geothermal, and solar PV wall systems. I am always impressed with the way this company tackled new projects, and executes complex constructive projects with creative & eco intuitive solutions. I am currently aiding a small scale bathroom remodel fix and flip, and working with this project with this crew is always a pleasure. Itâ s amazing what can get accomplished in two weeks on a reasonable budget. The expertise and experience based knowledge I observe and get to learn from is inspiring to me, and I continue to enjoy doing business with them"

"We called Red Star on Sunday after returning home from a weeks evacuation for a wildfire. There was a drip from the valve for the main water shutoff. I asked if there was an extra charge for weekends and was told there was not. They were very responsive and sent someone out that afternoon despite a difficult snowstorm - all good. The plumber was courteous, competent and fast, and the problem is fixed. However... The reason I was left with a bitter taste was simply the price: $685 to replace a simple shutoff valve, less than an hour on site. What he did was: a) shut off the water at the street (the caretaker normally does it but left him his tools and gave him permission to do it); b) cut out the old shutoff valve in the furnace room; c) soldered in a new valve; d) turned the water back on. He also fixed a faulty drain part on the bathtub but said he was not charging us for it, so that does not count toward the final bill. I am sorry, but that was NOT $685 worth of work. No way. Now, in fairness, he quoted me the price before beginning work and I accepted it after he explained that it was a complicated job, shutting off the main water and the house water, purging the system, changing the valve, etc. Did not sound that complicated to me but we had no choice - Sunday afternoon, snowstorm, leaking main shutoff that would flood the basement if it failed. But when he was done in under an hour and I saw what he actually did, it certainly did not seem complicated to the tune of $685. I slept on this overnight to make sure I was not just reacting with inappropriate sticker shock. I do not believe I am. I think we were taken advantage of because we were obviously in a bad spot, and perhaps because we live in a nice neighborhood. Not a good feeling. Not at all."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Jamestown, CO

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
