"The service tech that came to our house, John, was very courteous, very knowledgeable and detected several issues that he explained in detail and it was easy to concur with his assessments. He found a big clog in a very old pipe, which had broken as he was inspecting it. This clog had been giving us problem and was preventing the air from turning on. He ran to home depot, bought a replacement part and installed it, at no additional charge! He also vacuumed the heating unit and installed a new latch to hold the filter in place. He took the time to explain about the need to ensure the filter is secure so dirt and dust does not work its way into the main unit (Which would be very bad!). He examined the outside air conditioner and we scheduled another appointment in 6 months for a nice general check up. The outside unit may have a leak, which we were previously aware of, but he provided us additional details and let us know what our future options may be. We decided in 6 months, when they return for the semi-annual service we signed up for, that we could see how everything is looking. Very happy with the experience with Magnolia!"

Thermostat screen went blank-furnace and A/C wouldn't come on

Chris arrived within 1 hour of my call and checked the furnace first. He found a blown fuse and no power to low voltage wires inside the unit. He then checked the thermostat and found it was no longer working. Chris replaced the fuses and the thermostat with a similar unit and tested the entire system. He then checked my A/C unit for Freon levels and found and repaired a wire that had come loose.

Chris was very pleasant to work with and explained what he was checking and why as he went along. He explained how the new thermostat worked and provided me with both the installation and operating manuals. Great service!

"Vigen and his crew showed up on time , got right to work removing the old system which was completely hauled away in just over two hours . They ran new refrigerant lines in the attic on one of the hottest days of the year, then installed a new Trane high efficiency heat pump system and Trane thermostat. I thought the job would take two days but by 5 p.m. the work was done and we had cool air. Vigen performed the contracted work professionally and without any problems and we are very happy with the new system."

"On time and honest. I have very old but still working systems (20+ y.o. a/c and 30+ y.o. furnace). I told the technician that I use them infrequently. He was practical and suggested that I replace both systems when one of them quits working. Didn't try to up-sell for services I don't need. Suggested some services, but at the same time, didn't push for it since the systems are at end of life. Overall I felt comfortable doing business with them in the future."

"Don’t be put off by the sales presentation. I mean that in a good way.
We had just bought a house and a week later a heat wave hit
and our air conditioner died. It was 27
years old but we were hoping it would last one more year due to all the other
expenses we had to deal with in a new house.
As we normally do, we called 3 air conditioning companies
for quotes. Family was referred to us by
our insurance agent who used them for her house.
Our air conditioner broke Monday, I called them Tuesday,
John Hopton with Familly Heating and Air, came over on Wednesday to give me a
presentation and quote after reviewing my present AC.
Personally, I am not a fan of binder presentations that show
photos of family members, listening to company history and being shown
testimonials. I do the research
beforehand and already know if a company is licensed and has good reviews. Usually, all I want to know is “how much” and
“when can you do it”. However, it is always good to know that with “Family AC”
there is indeed a family dating back to 3 generations who is attached to the
company. That way you know that if there
is a problem with your AC especially because this is a big expenditure, you can
contact the installer. With a family
type of establishment, there is that personal attachment, a certain pride of
ownership that you won’t get with larger franchised operations. If you do any research on getting a new ac
unit, the product and the installation is equally important.
Another important thing to keep in mind is; does the company
have workers comp insurance and do they use their own employees? You could potentially be in a heap of trouble
if you have a contractor at your house who injures himself and they don’t have
workers comp insurance.
During the sales presentation, I was leary when John said
they weren’t the cheapest. So I was
prepared for some outrageous price. In
reality, Family ended up being $800 less than the other company we had
considered that was referred to us by someone else. This was for a Maytag 3 and frac12; ton unit. The 3rd company we called was from
a “social deal” site and they never called me back. I did call a 4th person, but they
weren’t local (this is something else to consider).
That Friday, even with the heat wave our Maytag ac unit was
installed. There were two guys, employees
who had many years of experience. They
got to my house at about 9:30 and said that it would take all day. However, they ended up finishing by
2:30. Bernie who was one of the
installers, was very helpful and showed me how to change the filter and program
the thermostat.
After they left and the ac had been running, a small bit of
water began to drip from a vent in the ceiling in one of our bathrooms on the
bottom floor. This had also happened on
the first day we moved in when the old ac had been running all day. At the
time, not knowing enough about air conditioning architecture, we attributed
this to the condensation from the inefficient old unit, especially because the
unit was directly outside of this room. In the days following, it didn’t drip again (since
we didn’t have ac) until the new unit was installed and running. So we thought
for sure, there was some kind of problem with the piping or ducting on the ac
unit. After texting John and telling him
we had water dripping because of the air conditioning, he immediately had
Bernie come over to check it out (this was a Friday night). Water was still making a small drip from the
vent but Bernie was skeptical that the ac was responsible. He asked if we had another bathroom above
this one, which we did. However, we told
him that we had flushed the toilet multiple times and even had a plumber make
sure there was no leak. There was no water leakage until the ac ran. He told us that the only way to determine the
source of the leak was to take off the vent and fan and put a small hole in the
ceiling. We did that and lo and behold, he showed us that the toilet above was
leaking near the bottom where the wax ring was located. The explanation as to why the toilet leaked
only when we had ac is that the wax hardened from the cooling and allowed the
water to seep between the cracks. Since
this was a new leak, we believe that during the home inspection, the inspector
jostled the toilets to make sure they were stable and may have broken some of
the wax. In the hot days following, the
wax was pliable and did not allow water to go through. We were really relieved
and thankful that all we needed to do was replace the wax ring and tighten the
toilet.
Bottom line, Family went above and beyond to help us even
though it wasn’t their problem. I can understand why they don’t have to
advertise or do a “daily deal” because they get business through referrals and
good reviews. Lastly, they have a program that allows you to make a small
monthly payment for a twice a year service for your heating and air. This is a great idea. That way you always
have the security of knowing that your air
conditioning unit will be serviced. One
thing some people don’t know is that the ac manufacturer’s warranty (our Maytag
unit is for 12 years ) could be voided if you don’t have the proof that it was
regularly serviced.

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Landers, CA

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
