"He was very open in explaining the condition of our system and provided us with a few options to consider. My only concern was that his pricing seemed a little higher than other providers (although the inspection cost was very reasonable)."

"Wes gave me an appt. then called to fit me in at an earlier time slot. He came out on a Saturday of a Holiday weekend! He warned me that my unit was old and might need replacing so I was preparing for the worst news and a possible $2500 new Heat pump. Wes dealt with my wife as I was unable to get out of work. He was courteous and explained everything he was doing to diagnose the problem. Instead of a new Heat Pump he replaced a $50 part and charged me a service visit. He is the only service I will ever use and recommend. Any one else would have and could have taken advantage of the situation. Thank you Wes of GLM Mechanical Services you have gained my trust and loyalty."

"During the initial service visit, the representative (Xavier) gave a detailed explanation of the condition of the HVAC system and the repair options. I hired JDL and two days later they arrived first thing in the morning to install a new system (furnace and A/C). The quality of their work and products recommended are excellent. I highly recommend their services."

"Had a full HVAC system installed including all new ductwork. Maurice and Tanner and Bob were super professional and very informative. Went above and beyond what was expected always stopping what they were doing to answer any questions we had. Jason Bowen was extremely polite and professional explained the whole system we were going to get and didn't try at all to upsell equipment, and didn't pressure us at all for the sale. W At your Service heating and cooling will be our go to for anything we ever need done!!!"

"We decided to replace our 16 year old AC and furnace as we wanted to prevent possible problems with our HVAC system. The heating consultant that they sent, Alex H, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He provided us with estimates for a number of options - similar to those from other HVAC companies that quoted for this work. A day later I received a call from Blue Dot offering a discount on that quote and we accepted that quote. Alex made the one and a half hour drive to visit with us again, to walk us through the contract details, and to explain install process. This was a really nice touch as usually contracts are signed electronically these days. The Blue Dot install team came on time on the scheduled day and did a neat and professional job with the install - performing all the necessary checks and tests, and left the work area clean and tidy - and with the HVAC systems working well. The whole purchase and install process couldn't have gone smoother. We are very happy with BlueDot and will certainly use them again preferentially for our HVAC needs."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Stevenson, MD

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
