"We had a horrendous situation with a basement floor installation that went wrong leaving our house full of fumes, and a week later we discovered our basement was contaminated by asbestos in the process. When we called Bill and Contractors Unlimited, they were extremely responsive. Although other companies gave us bids, Bill was able to work his schedule to fit us in weeks sooner than the others. Although the cost was a bit more, that saved us money because we were displaced and could not even go into our house because of the fumes. CU set up negative air machines to replace the air, they followed asbestos abatement laws, they cleaned every item that could be salvaged in our house. They even saved more than we thought which really reduced our overall expense. Bill and his team were extremely professional, friendly, helpful, and really went out of their way to ease our stress from this situation. At the end of their process, Bill arranged for a air quality inspection which we happily passed - able to return home. I would gladly recommend Contractors Unlimited for asbestos abatement. I just wish we had called them before the floor guys created such a disaster. Thank you Bill!

"I bought the coupon for three hour service, and had them take care of two projects for me. I had a ceiling drywall repair from previous water damage which needed to be fixed. As I did not have materials on hand they ran to the store for me to buy a half sheet of drywall and some batt insulation. I also had a medicine cabinet to install in the bathroom and a new vanity light. All the work was done in 3 hours. However, the trip to the store took extra time so I had an additional charge for that and for the materials, which was reasonable. I was very happy with the finished product!, and will use them again!

"I have had a couple of encounters with Jiffy and am unlikely to ask them back. Although it is fairly easy to schedule with them, the dispatcher who calls to coordinate generally sounded as if I was irritating him. At the time, I was having some problems with my phone, so it didn't always ring. I tried to get back to him as soon as I could, but he still seemed put out.
The technician who came to install the external spigot in August seemed to do all right, but when I tried to winterize the pipe in November, the shutoffs stopped the flow of the kitchen water. I asked someone to come back out, and the new technician showed me where the actual shutoff is. He also showed me how to properly winterize the pipe.
He seemed a bit surprised by the way the previous Jiffy tech had done the work. He said that the pipes are not insulated, which could be a problem. He said that to insulate them properly, he would have to cut into the cabinets all along that wall (which is the external wall of the house). I told him that we don't even know that the pipes run all along that wall; the only other water usage is for the dishwasher, which is directly adjacent to the sink, and the water source is in the center of the house, which means the pipes would run away from that wall instead of along it. He seemed ready to open up the cabinets without evidence that the pipes even ran far along the wall. He did not offer any alternatives.
On another (earlier) day, a different Jiffy tech came out to look at the water main in the crawl space below the house, which I was told needed insulating. The tech crawled under there and said that it is insulated, but not the way he would do it. To do it the way he would do it would cost $475 and take 4-5 hours, but he could not guarantee that the pipes would still not freeze.
The work and service have not been terrible, but my experiences have not assured me enough to ask the company back.

"Fantastic work! Fast, easy and professional. These guys know what they are doing. We also used Accurate Insulation last year when we bought the house, and they provided whole-house insulation to add to the original 1965 builder insulation. They were able to provide advice on what would be too much insulation and could cause poor indoor air quality. Would use them again anytime.

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

Local and federal rebates are available for insulation installation, which can significantly reduce your overall costs. Many utility companies offer incentives or rebates to homeowners who improve their home's energy efficiency. Contact your local energy provider or government agencies to learn about available programs in your area, and consult with a professional insulation installer to maximize your savings.
It's not necessary to remove old insulation before adding new insulation, as long as the existing insulation is in good condition—dry, free of mold, and not damaged. Adding new insulation on top of old insulation can improve your home's energy efficiency by increasing the overall R-value. However, if the old insulation is wet, moldy, or damaged, it's best to remove it before installing new insulation to prevent potential health risks and ensure optimal performance.
Insulating a house takes between five and twelve hours for batts or boards, and two to five hours for spray foam or blown-in insulation. The exact time depends on the size of your home, the type of insulation, and the accessibility of the areas being insulated. Keep in mind that projects may take longer if old insulation needs removal, if there's a larger square footage, or if spaces are difficult to reach.
