"This project could have been the type to cause months of stress and frustration with any other contractor, but Christian and the folks at 5th Gen made sure it didn't. We had the floor of an entire room ripped up because of water damage, including the structure down to the dirt and part of the wall. "I contacted Brendan Works to get a quote to replace my Capitol Hill townhome's rusted-out metal staircase. I wanted something that would fit with the classic look of the neighborhood, while being durable and solid. I was in a hurry, because I needed the stairs to go in before we moved some furniture and scheduled another contractor for a separate service. Communication: The owner Daniel was extremely responsive - we spoke on the phone, texted, and emailed when necessary. He worked around my schedule to get a quote and then to get the work done in a fast-turn, narrow time window. He was always pleasant and efficient. Quality: The stairs and rails look really, really nice and feel really solid. They seamlessly removed my crumbling old stairs. The welding looks really smooth. They found salvage components to create the classic Capitol Hill look with the rails, even though I couldn't describe exactly what I wanted, they absolutely hit the mark based on some pictures I sent them. Price: Really competitive. Daniel looked at the components of the structure that were in good enough shape to remain, instead of ripping out everything - and that saved us a ton of money. I had assumed it would all need to come off the house and they could have easily charged me a lot more. I would definitely work with Brendan Works again and recommend them to friends who are looking for a solid welding company."

"I was referred to Mr. Simms from a friend. Mr Simms did a great job on the rear gate. There were a few issues with timing, and the start of the work time. Mr. Simms is a one man shop so I can understand he is busy, but there should have been a bit further communication. Nevertheless, he did return my calls promptly. The quality the the rear gate, and the price were fantastic. He took his time and did it right. Based on this, I decided to let him bid on a fence that I wanted built in the front of my house. The price was significantly higher than the work for the rear gate. The end product does look nice, and to be clear these are custome built fences that Mr. Simms fabricates. But there were a few times that I had to step in to prevent corners being cut. Also, Mr. Simms did not have a generator for his welder, and I had to give him a power cord and he used my electricity. My bill this past month was $100 above what it is normally, and his welder also flipped a circuit in my house which was an inconvenience. 

Overall, Mr. Simms is a skilled welder that does have a good eye. I would use him again if the scope of the work was completely defined."
