"Young Environmental is an experienced, knowledgeable company that specializes in asbestos mitigation. We found them through Angie's List to address a problem we needed completed in order for other work to be done (the installation of a French drain for a sump pump). It was when we were getting an estimate for that work that we were told the tiles needed to be removed first because of the asbestos used in the tiles of that age (1960s). We received a quick response from Young Env. They told us that while both the tiles and mastic contained asbestos the amount was minimal and likely not a health hazard. I probably could have removed the tiles myself, but removing the mastic was a whole different issue. Young does an excellent job of sealing the area to prevent any exposure and guarantees their work. The post-mitigation testing is done by a different company (Geller Labs in our case), so there is that additional assurance. No remaining asbestos was found and the other work was able to proceed. Total work was approx. 213 linear feet of tile and mastic, just where the sump pump trench would be excavated. We plan on having them back to do the rest of the area (with a quote that obviously provides credit for work done)."

They said it would be an extra $200 to sanitize the mold problem and they had told me that upfront when I asked about the mold. I was concerned with mold and them accidentally spreading mold spores in the course of what they were doing, but I feel that they took care of that properly. We had to re-schedule a few times, but they were flexible with my schedule changes. We haven't had any problems since their service. We definitely see an improvement."

"I was very pleased with the work by Radon Abatement services. John Swett preferred to provide an estimate over the phone, but upon my request he came to the house to help us determine the best location to install the system. I have a partially built-in work bench in the basement utility room where the hole needed drilled into the foundation and the PVC pipe run up to above ground, but John helped us come up with a solution. I had to detach the workbench from the wall to make room for drilling the hole, but once that was complete, the installation team leader, Walter, helped me put the workbench back in place and drill holes right through the workbench and storage shelves so that the workbench could remain flush against the wall. He even installed a collar in the pipe in case I ever need to remove the workbench again. A test the next week showed that the Radon levels dropped to 0.4. I am providing a B rating for responsiveness because several emails and voicemails I left during the busy summer home sales season went unanswered. However, once I tried again in the fall John was extremely responsive. In my case, I was not in a rush and it was worth waiting."
