Small jobs welcome

"We researched for exterior painters on Angi’s List; Home Advisor and also looked through google reviews as well. There are a lot of painters out there, but we did narrow it down to five and obtained estimates from all. We selected Pete of Premier Painting and so happy we did. From the beginning he was timely with his follow up to our calls/emails; he provided an initial estimate based on information and photos and then met with us to do a more detailed estimate (which didn’t change, except for additional items that we decided to include). His estimate was competitive and we just had a “good feeling” that he would be the right fit for us and based on reviews, a good painter. Although we were initially going to be scheduled for Spring of 2022, at the last minute Pete had an opening in the schedule for the end of this season and began in September. His work is great; he sprayed and brushed our home and when he sprayed he back brushed for complete coverage; he is neat; cleans up each day; is organized in his approach on how and what he painted so as the front was done first both trim and body so from the road it looked complete. During the course of his being here, we ended up making some changes in terms of stain treatment for our deck, which resulted in more sanding; adding an item or two and he has always been professional and agreeable. In addition to painting the entire exterior - our deck balusters were all stained brown and he is painting them all white - pretty labor intensive but the finished product is just what we hoped for. For various reasons he ended up painting our home by himself and he is here every day - 6 days a week, weather permitting; is communicative if he won’t be here for weather related reasons - and he even returned our dog when he was leaving and found her down the road. A pleasure to work with; we highly recommend.--"

"After 2 bad experiences with painting jobs over the years, we had given up hope of having a beautiful home exterior. I am so glad we found ECE. They were fantastic. They knew what our house needed -- mainly, a thorough and professional prepping, which we had not gotten before. They took their time to make sure it was done properly, including carpentry to replace old boards. They even worked with the paint store to make sure we got the exact color we wanted. I would recommend them without hesitation."

"Jordan and Putnam Coastal Painting are the upmost professionals. They painted my living room, kitchen, hallways, and 1.5 bathrooms and did an outstanding job. It looks like a brand new house. Jordan is timely, kind, reasonably priced, and has excellent communication. I would recommend his work to anyone, and I will definitely reach back out to him if I need additional rooms painted in the future."

"We were very pleased with Northern Ridge Painting & Remodeling and highly recommend them. We needed the outside trim of our house painted along with the shutters. Also the front door needed to be sanded, stained and re sealed. In addition we had areas of our trim removed and replaced/painted. Our home is large and it goes up quite high. Brian's team was very responsive from our first inquiry to his quick estimate. Their communication was spot on and they answered all our questions throughout the process. The whole crew was wonderful during the entire experience and cleaned up every day. The job was done in a timely manner and the work was excellent. There was a thorough walk around before the final payment to make sure everything was done properly and to our satisfaction. I would mot hesitate to call on Northern Ridge in the future."

"Steve contacted us Wednesday and Came over Friday @8am as promised to paint the walls in our kitchen which hadn't been painted since our house was built. He bought the paint and was ready to go. He didn't have to tape; he was that good. He had to put three coats on as the walls were that old and never been painted. He did a great job and would highly recommend him. I will not do any painting without him."

"Christopher and the crew at Pristine Painting did an excellent job on our project. We had 3 big classrooms (walls and trim) painted, and we are so pleased with the results. Christopher was a responsive communicator, the painting crew were pleasant and hardworking, and the result was transformative. On top of great service, the price was very affordable for us AND they worked fast. Very happy from start to finish."

Customers say: Quick response

"Philippe was a great guy. A very good and detailed painter. But....there were some items that weren't finished and that we had to attend to ourselves (a few places that he'd patched, but never sanded and painted), and the cover to our doorbell (the interior part) that he removed for painting purposes seems to have disappeared. Also, he ended up being as expensive as the 'bigger' names in town...the ones that also come highly rated, but who send out 'teams' of painters and get the job done in 3 days or so. Philippe was here a full week. Again, a great guy, but not entirely sure I'd hire him again....."

FAQs for painting projects in York Beach, ME

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
