"Rick was super responsive when I emailed him and came out to the house with plenty of samples. He measured that day and was able to set me up with temporary blinds until the real ones arrived. The blinds are fantastic and Rick was great to work with! I love supporting a small business and would easily use him again and recommend him to a friend!"

"I wish I could give this company a better rating but I cannot do so in good conscience. The quality of the windows and installation is very good. The price was fantastic. The crew cleaned up after themselves.
I was not told until AFTER I had made the down payment on the windows that the company was scheduled at least 6 weeks out for installation. The explanation for the delay, which is that we were having an exceptionally wet summer, and they could not install in the rain was valid, it just would have been nice to be advised of the anticipated wait time in advance of the purchase.
The install actually happened 11 weeks after the initial payment was made. While circumstances beyond the company's control, like weather, are understandable, lack of communication is not. When I followed up to find out an approximate time for installation, there were long delays in response from Morningstar.
The first two times I got a slow and dismissive answer regarding my questions about an approximate install date, I accepted the response given by Melissa, which was that the rain had pushed their schedule further back, and that additionally, their Angie's List offer had resulted in a great deal of work. When the delays continued, it became clear that in addition to being a professional salesperson, Melissa is a professional excuse maker.
If your company gets behind due to high volume or other circumstances; the professional response is to hire more help if necessary to catch up. Clearly this is not a strategy this company employs. When I finally got an anticipated install date, first, the company from which Morningstar gets the windows allegedly did not have my order ready, which resulted in another delay. Really, I placed my order in June and the windows weren't ready in August? I believed it at first, but upon more reflection this seems highly unlikely. So we rescheduled.
We were first told to expect the installers at 8am. We were only advised of a time when we asked, an approximate time was not offered. Then we were told that we could expect the installers at around 10am. The installers didn't arrive until around 2pm. When we inquired where they install crew was at around 11am, Melissa responded that they were on their way, that they just had to get tools from another work site. When I complained to Melissa of the delay after the install, she showed me pics of the "tools" the crew had to retrieve prior to coming to my home. The "tools" included enormous scaffolding. If she knew they had to break down something so involved, which she clearly did know, she could have told me so that I could better plan my day, but clearly she chose to keep me in the dark. Additionally, mortar had to be added into a front window as a gap was left due to the difference in thickness of our previous window and the new window. We asked that the mortar be added before it rained again because rain could get behind the brick facade and cause damage to our home. Melissa said she would have someone add the mortar right away. Several days later and after two rains, someone came back and added the mortar.
Let me summarize by saying we are happy with the quality of the windows and installation. The crew was courteous. However, due to the lack of honest communication I would not work with this company again. Also, after the install I did some math and it became clear that the price I paid divided by the number of people on the crew working, the number of hours worked, cost of actual windows, and profit and overhead for Morningstar's owners; it was clear that there was not much money to go around. In the future I would gladly pay more for better service, which is my disposition in most purchases. I was also disappointed that the failure in communication set by ownership has trickled down to the crew. The crew abruptly left after working the last day of install without telling us they were leaving. Too bad for them because we had prepared a decent sized cash tip that they missed out on. I emphasize the challenges with this company are clearly at the owner/management level and not with the crew. I cannot recommend working with this company."

"JD and his crew were fantastic! The estimate was competitive with other bidders and we felt the value of their services was very high. We had extensive wood rot damage around most of the windows in our house. JD and his crew were very detailed and careful as they removed the old windows, repaired the wood rot, and installed the new windows. The locations that were leaking before the window installation are leaking no more. Wood Rot Solutions also repaired rot on the exterior of our house, including trim and siding. Everything was caulked well and it was easy for the painters once they arrive. (Note: painting was not part of Wood Rot Solutions scope.) JD and his crew were very professional. They kept the interior of the house clean and even worked around our child's naptimes. We are VERY happy with our new windows.

"After I approved the drapes, I was sent an invoice for $700. I paid the invoice. It's been over a year and despite numerous emails (over a dozen) with Amanda Zettel of Homemade Design, I still have not received the drapes or a refund. I was very satisfied with all of Homemade Design's work up until this experience."

"My initial impression of them was that they were knowledgeable, and I felt comfortable with the marketing manager who came for the sales call. They left some window samples here which we were very appreciative of. We received another quote from the window company we ended up using, because their pricing was better. The issue that I had with 5 star was, they knew we were getting other bids, and when I called them back to tell them that we weren't going to use them, their attitude changed significantly from being being very professional, to being irritated that they didn't get it. I found that to be pretty unprofessional. I think it goes to the guy's age, that would be my opinion on that. He was younger, and he could have handled himself better. We still have the windows, I called them, and left a couple of messages, to please pick up their windows, and they never came and got their sample windows, so I threw them out. Their quality was comparable. They were responsive, but their professionalism was not good."

"Installed recessed lights in living room and bathroom. Installed 10 new LED bulbs and put in two cans and installed two new holes for 2 of the lights. I instructed them (many times) to install matching lights in both rooms. I specifically said I want all the lights to match (many times). They put the old rims on the new lights and the lights therefore do not match. They look just like they did before the new bulbs were installed and the new rims are covered up. Installed 4" lights in 6" cans so had to use the old rims to go around them. Installed living room lights in wrong spot and when I tried to convey to him I wanted them moved to a new spot, was told it would require ripping out a large section of the ceiling and it would be a real pain to do it. I did not feel as if my wants for this project were taken into consideration. The degree of difficulty was what made the decisions to change or not change work already performed. I was not offered a written estimate, but was told that he does offer them. I guess just not to me. Prices changed after work was done from time of estimate. Purchased supplies with money I provided but did not present receipts for materials. It is difficult to find a good handyman. Would not recommend for small jobs. I think the bigger the job the more attention to detail is given the work, due to the amount to be made from the job.

Custom window treatments cost $800 per window, ranging from $150 to $3,000 for materials alone, before labor is factored in. Blinds are the most economical option, while custom curtains and drapes are more expensive due to intricate designs and premium materials. The final cost depends on your style preferences, material quality, and the complexity of the installation.
Mini blinds are the most cost-effective window treatment available, providing efficient light control and exceptional value. They offer the lowest cost option at $600 per set and serve as a dependable solution for budget-conscious homeowners. Roller shades and valances offer cost savings by avoiding premium materials, ensuring that quality design and functional installations remain uncompromised.
Prices increase with larger windows, premium materials, and additional labor for complex installations. High-grade fabrics, hardwoods, intricate designs, and motorized hardware all contribute to the total cost. For instance, drapes run more than Roman shades because they use more fabric and detailing. Still, a well-chosen treatment pays you back in style, privacy, and insulation.
Layering treatments—say, a sheer shade paired with floor-length drapes—adds depth and polish to any room. Sticking to one color family keeps the look cohesive while mixing textures boosts dimension, sound absorption, and energy efficiency. You also gain flexible light control, shifting from full sun to total blackout without swapping hardware.
Energy-efficient window treatments lower energy costs by minimizing heat transfer through advanced fabric technology and design. They block excessive sunlight while maintaining a consistent indoor temperature, thereby reducing the demand on heating and cooling systems. They retain heat in winter and keep your home cool in summer, maintaining year-round comfort and producing measurable savings on electric bills through superior energy management.
Bay, picture, and dormer windows rarely pair well with shutters because their unique shapes demand more flexible coverings. For a cleaner fit and better performance, choose treatments tailored to those dimensions—think custom shades, drapes, or valances that accentuate the architecture instead of competing with it.
