Small jobs welcome
"Ortiz electrical did an excellent job diagnosing my electrical issues. Once the issues were diagnosed, they offered a reasonable price to complete the repairs. They completed the repairs efficiently while demonstrating what was being repaired and why. The bonus, they cleaned up their mess afterwards. I will save Ortiz electrical services card and definitely call them for any future electrical repairs."

"These guys did a fantastic job and were an absolute pleasure to work with. Small business, all primary work done by the three owners/operators of the group, who are are masters in their respective fields: "Tech Guy", Electrician, and Gas Fitter. (I genuinely hope to not cause offense by this broadly generalized description). I had a 20kW Cummins LP/NG-fired automatic backup generator installed and connected to a new automatic transfer switch, and (since we had no existing gas system) a new 500gallon LP propane tank installed and under-grounded to feed the generator. My main electrical panel was brought up to current code in the process. The excavation and burial work was subcontracted to a trusted local operator that did really nice work, and they worked with Southern States to provide a tank and first fill. They handled all the permits and coordinated the inspections. Waiting for the county inspector, and waiting for Southern States to fill the tank after the gas inspection, were the only observable delays in the process, and those were negligible/reasonable. The SciFiHomes people were quick, efficient, and obviously practiced with all of their pieces of the work. They will strongly prefer Cummins-brand generators over the competitors, and they are more a more expensive initial investment compared to them. After doing my own research after their sales pitch, it is a very worthwhile "upgrade". The difference between Cummins' generators and the competitors is fuel efficiency; according to the math, I'll get over 24 hours of additional runtime vs (as an example) Generac's 20kW generator at 40% average load on a full 420gallons of propane in the new 500gal tank. With an extended outage, or multiple long outages as with last winter in Frederick County, that's a very significant advantage. Sorry for the "sales pitch"; I only included this to prove that they're in my opinion very justified in pushing the "premium" brand. We purchased the extended warranty uplift as well as their extended service agreement. We can't recommend them enough; fantastic experience, and this generator has already flawlessly provided over 20 hours of outage coverage in the 5 months we've had it. Winter is coming, and we'll be ready this time. It just works... These guys and their total solution probably isn't the absolute cheapest in the area... but we absolutely got what we paid for. Thanks SFH!"

"To Who It May Concern ,
I am a retired Electrical Construction and Maintenance Foreman for over 35 years from INOVA Fairfax Hospital Engineering Department and was very good at what I did and handled many Contracts . So when my old furnace blew up I got 3 prices of which Appleton/Campbell was not the cheapest one and I was going to get Trane equipment but after I talking to Appleton/Campbell's take off man and their Estimator I decided on Carrier and from them . It took me a few night to ( Swallow their bottom line ) , but i am most certainly glad that I did . My parents were right again ( You Get What You Pay For .) They were right on the money with their estimated time of completion . Like I told them , ( I was a picky old b****** as for as neatness and workmen ship goes ) and for a picky old b****** I was overwhelmed with the finish product as far as their workmen ship and nearness and with out any nagging from me . It took them a little better than a day and a half and all toll their were 5 different men here at different times and every one of them were as nice as they could have been at least in the Construction Trade . You could tell that they all were loyal company men that liked their jobs and their Bosses which showed up very clearly in their workmen ship .I wanted to wait at least a month until I got use the the sounds and operations of every thing and boy this Carrier Equipment is quiet as a mouse and is easy to operate even for a 74 year old man. I would most certainly recommend not only the equipment but also would highly recommend the installing contractor better known as -
APPLETON/CAMPBELL Plumbing - Heating - Air Conditioning and Electrical of Warrenton Va..
A Well Satisfied Owner / Customer ,
Jim Burke

PS !! I am so proud of my Carrier and Appleton/Campbell I would
be proud to show my installation and equipment off to any undecided customers .

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.
There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.
Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.
Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.
Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.
Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.
The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:
Apprentice
Does not always require a license depending on the state.
Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.
Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.
Always require supervision.
Journeyman
Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.
Can usually supervise apprentices.
They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.
Master
Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.
Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.
Not a recognized rank in all states.
Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.
Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.
Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
