"They were great to work with. I’m a Realtor and reached out to the owner, Jonathan, late Thursday night through Angi regarding a sewer line issue that came up during an inspection on one of my listings. The buyer’s plumber had initially scoped the line but wanted it decalcified and cleaned due to calcium buildup, so they requested that the seller have it properly cleaned and rescoped. Jonathan and his team responded immediately. They cleaned both the interior and exterior lines and had everything completed by 3:45 pm the next day—well within our inspection timeline. He also provided two separate videos, which we shared with the buyer’s plumber, and he approved the results. Excellent communication, quick turnaround, and very professional throughout the process. Highly recommend."

"I contacted five plumbers asking for the estimated cost of replacing two bathroom faucets. Most companies responded by asking me to call them or by charging a fee to provide an estimate in person. Both practices gave the impression the companies were more interested in a sales pitch than quoting a fare market value for the project. BouVaag was the only plumbing company to respond to the initial inquiry with a cost estimate. Their plumber arrived during the scheduled time window, completed the project in a timely manner, and charged within the quoted estimate. An electronic invoice was sent a week later. Prepare to pay with a check as the company charges a fee for processing debit/card payments."

"Let me start by saying that I think the work performed was done as good as can be expected. I have had a bathroom exhaust fan installed at another home I own in another city.  I?m not going to compare the cost of the two services as cost of living and install complexity are definitely cause for price fluctuations.  However, as for what was left to clean up (holes to patch in walls, ceiling, etc.) was to be expected.
Before starting the service work to be performed here in Minneapolis, I first came her to Angies List to locate some companies that could provide the service for a reasonable price and from their reviews, had for the most part pleased customers.  I
understand circumstances can vary and while a bad grade may not be a good indicator of poor service, how a vendor handles the disputes is something I look at.  I have not/will not started a dispute with this vendor.  The work has been performed and I have paid my bill.  I agreed to the cost when the electrician was out to quote, so I knew that day what I was getting in to and by all means had the right to turn him away.  The weather was about to turn ugly and I had company coming into town so in my mind I had an urgency to complete job, however, that did not play into the pricing or any expeditious surcharges applied to the job.
In doing my research I found a review from Stafford Home Service where similar work was performed on 10/03/2014.  Same thing, install bath fan, vent through attic and of course for a new fan install, to install the switch.  After all, how are you going to turn on the new fan?  Price listed $750.  Another review from Stafford for similar work performed where a $120 fan was purchased ahead of time, service completed ran approx. $500 ($620 total).
Jump to Randys Electric.  I checked the reviews to see how much similar work ran price wise.  Review from 10/22/2014 listed similar work performed for $800 which included fan.  The comment did mention some complaint towards price, however previous review from Stafford listed it at $750 so still in the ball park.  Other reviews also listed good work but steep prices.  I shouldn?t have been surprised by my quote.
My original quote from the electrician was around $750 - $800 and didn?t include venting or switch (how do you turn on the fan that was just installed).  The electrician first advised that he wasn?t licensed to do the venting.  Both times I called in to schedule I had advised the work I was needing performed, Installing a bath exhaust fan where there wasn?t one currently and that I would be providing my own fan, so I was confused this was going to be a two vendor job.  The electrician had advised going with Minneapolis Plumbing and Heating for the venting.  I asked him to include that in his quote.  He ran out to the van and contacted them.  He came back in and advised that they were going to charge about $1000 to just do the venting, however, to vent that fan you didn?t need to be licensed and that he could then do it himself.  Adding the switch for the fan was going to be extra and would run $1000.  I advised that I bought the fan and that took $100 bucks off of the price down to $900.  When it came to the install, the wiring that was used for the fan, I had already ran from a previous renovation project where the junction for the wires were loose, all he had to do was connect in ceiling and snake to light switch.  He advised that he would take $50 off for that.  The light switch was accessible via a drop ceiling and the ceiling had open crawl space above it.  But the option of snaking to the light switch via the drop ceiling bumped the price back up to $1000.  In venting the sheeting on my roof was too thick so I volunteered to go in crawl space and remove some of the original sheeting in that location with my oscillating tool.
So after helping with the install of the vent in the roof, running the wires myself, and purchasing and supplying my own fan, I still paid $1000.  This pricing is actually humorously, ridiculous.  I will not be using them again and will make sure to advise any others who need an electrician to beware of Randy?s.   While the end result functionally I am pleased with, pricing is on the border of gouging.  But hey they are a faith based company so why not .

"Oscar was very responsive and came out based on being in the area already. As this is a problem our home has had in the past, it was nice to see a different perspective from our last plumber. Oscar was fair in his assessment and took an approach to the problem that was unique from our last plumber. This small difference resulted in less cost (no toilet removal) and less mess overall. He will definitely be the first call for our future Drain or Sewer issues, which I hope we don't have."

"As a person in the plumbing trades both new construction and service work I have come to appreciate the skills of someone who does a craft full time and is encouraged to develop skills to make it “their” full time occupation and career. Drain cleaning is part of maintaining a plumbing system. It is a craft different than installing and repairing plumbing but it is just as important to do it correctly. The other values in McDonough’s services are several having the equipment and personnel trained and available is paramount to this no matter how big a job has gotten they have never stopped until it was completed! The other feature that is not fully understood by many is that it is always best to use someone that has only one purpose in mind and that is to get the drain cleaned and inspected and has no reason to up sell you on some repairs or replacement that you don’t need. That why we use them as a plumbing company and recommend them to our valued clients. Great company that invests in training, retaining and having the equipment that their service people need to be efficient, productive and provide the services that they are being relied on to provide."

FAQs for plumbing projects in Bloomington, MN

Schedule a plumbing inspection every one to two years to ensure your system is in good working order. Regular inspections can help you catch minor issues before they become costly problems, like major water damage repairs. You should also consider a plumbing inspection when buying or selling a home or if you notice signs of a plumbing issue. Staying proactive with maintenance can save you money and stress in the long run.

A plumbing inspection for a standard one-story to two-story home takes between two and three hours. For larger residences, historic homes, or rental complexes, a complete inspection requires a full-day commitment of eight hours. However, this does not account for any necessary repairs that your plumber might find, so it’s best to set aside additional time during the inspection in case an unexpected repair comes up.

When built with quality materials, your plumbing system endures for decades. CPVC, brass, iron, and steel provide reliable service for 50 to 70 years, while copper extends durability up to 100 years, and PEX maintains performance for 80 to 100 years. Maintaining this system with regular inspections and prompt repairs guarantees long-term efficiency.

You should repipe your home when your plumbing exceeds its expected lifespan or uses hazardous materials like lead, polybutylene, or galvanized steel. Persistent leaks, corrosion, and compromised water quality signal that your existing piping no longer meets safety standards. Repiping eliminates potential health risks and prevents extensive water damage.
