Concrete mudjacking is a process in which a concrete grout is injected below sunken concrete slabs in order to raise them back to their original height. It is a very cost effective, and efficient way to fix sunken sidewalks, driveways, patios, basement floors, and even foundation walls. If you’re experiencing sunken concrete slabs on your property, mudjacking is a quick and easy way to get things back to their original state.

What is Concrete Mudjacking?

Mudjacking, also referred to as concrete raising, concrete lifting, and slabjacking, is actually more straightforward than you might think. A concrete repair contractor will come to your home, drill a hole in the concrete slab that is causing you trouble, and then inject a mixture of pond sand and concrete (commonly referred to as “grout”) beneath the slab in order to raise it up. The grout fills the void beneath the slab that is causing it to sink, then pressurizes and hydraulically lifts the slab up to its original position. The process takes a few hours to complete, and your concrete slab should be ready for regular use again within a day after the work is finished.

Concrete Mudjacking Saves You Money

Besides the ease with which mudjacking raises and levels your sinking concrete slabs, it’s also much cheaper than replacing them with newly poured concrete. In fact, mudjacking costs about half as much as putting in a new slab. If you’re still not impressed, keep in mind that figure doesn’t account for demolition and removal of the old slab, which can be costly in and of itself. With those kind of cost benefits, it’s easy to see why slabjacking has become the concrete repair method of choice when it comes to raising concrete that has settled and sunk into the ground.

Is Your Concrete a Candidate for Mudjacking?

Just about any poured concrete slab or wall that lies below ground level is fair game for concrete jacking. Concrete patios, sidewalks, driveways, and stairs make for the most common mudjacking projects, but concrete mudjacking is also an effective repair method for basement floors, bowed concrete basement walls, and even sinking foundations. Anywhere you’ve got sunken concrete, concrete mudjacking can fix your problem.

Talk to a Professional Concrete Repair Contractor

Unfortunately, concrete mudjacking is not a DIY project. It requires the use of a lot of specialized equipment, from the masonry drills used to drill a hole through your slab right on through to the equipment that pumps the grout beneath the concrete itself. That being the case, if you’ve got a problem with concrete that you think slabjacking might solve, talk to a professional experienced in the procedure in order to get the job done right. You’ll save yourself a bundle over pouring a new slab, and you’ll be amazed at the quick, and effective results.

Thank you for helping me understand more about mudjacking. Recently, the back patio has started to sink. I didn’t know that drilling a hole into the problem area and then filling it with pond sand and concrete would help raise it back to its original position. I would do it myself but I’m afraid I’d cause further damage, I’ll definitely contact a local professional leveling service to help.
