"I'm very pleased with Ted Naydan. He explained/showed me his credentials/license before starting. He took the time to show me all information from start to finish. I went to Patio Enclosures and Ted gave me a tour of the Sun-Rooms & the place of business at Patio Enclosures. He worked with me on a budget that I could afford on getting my room. I would most recommend him as first choice if anyone is seeking to have an add on to their home."

"Positives: The design work was great. We spoke with several kitchen companies before deciding to go with VKB, and Joe, the designer we worked with, put the most effort into hearing what our goals were and creating a creative plan for us. He was knowledgeable and helpful, and had a good eye to notice things that we hadn’t considered. He also offered helpful suggestions regarding cabinets, countertops, paint colors, etc. We were happy with the finished product. Negatives: The biggest issue we encountered was a lack of communication. We discussed various issues with the designer, but these frequently were not communicated to the actual workers doing the job. For instance, when the workers showed up on the first day, they didn’t actually have the plans for what was being done with the kitchen, and we had to explain the job to them. Joe offered to add lighting inside our closet, and we contacted him and said to go ahead and do it, but that information was not communicated to the workers until it was really too late, so it was never done. Sometimes it was 48 hours before we would hear back from Joe when we contacted him with a question during the process of the remodel. Because a lot can happen in two work days, this was sometimes problematic. The second issue we encountered was that when speaking about the project beforehand, words like “plumber” and “electrician” were used, but no plumbers or electricians were actually employed; general contractors did all the work. As a result, we felt uneasy about the quality of the work that was being done. For instance, the evening after our sink was hooked up, it came disconnected while we were using it, with the result that water was spewing all over our under-sink cabinet until my husband reconnected everything properly. Additionally, the cabinet seal on our dishwasher was installed backwards so that the rubber flap was sticking out. (They fixed this upon request.) Issues like these make us feel uneasy, and we weren’t confident that the work we couldn’t see or notice right away was done right. We wish that an actual plumber had been hired to do the work, as we had expected, or at least that it had been clear up front that this would be the case. Finally, we felt that the workers who were actually doing the job were sometimes careless toward our home. For instance, they piled tools and trash on our back patio, but in the process knocked over a plant and crushed flowers in our flower bed. They got paint smudges on a wooden shelving unit in the kitchen while painting. Similarly, certain details of the job were missed until we pointed them out. The finished product came out well, but we aren’t sure it would have if we had not been carefully supervising. (For instance, they forgot to run an electrical line for the oven until we reminded them, and a different faucet than we had selected was installed. These issues were always corrected once we pointed them out, but we were surprised that mistakes like this were made.)"

"Daryl built our first new construction home in 2020. He made the process very simple. He already had the designs and started building the house before we purchased it. Even though he started the build, he worked with us on changes we wanted. All our requests were done at a reasonable price. Daryl used state of the art materials and practices building our home. The finished product is beautiful and more energy-efficient than I would have ever imagined. The quality of our home is unmatched by any other home we saw. Even after completion of our home Daryl has kept in touch to answer any questions we have had. Daryl stands bay and backs the quality work he does. He has exceeded all of our expectations, and hopefully, we will be using him to finish our basement in the near future."

"

We found Dave Rutch/Precision Remodeling on Angie's List and were impressed with the reviews. Our project consisted of replacing all the interior hollow-core doors in our condo with new, Mission-style solid-wood doors that would be sized and fitted with hardware on site, installed and then painted in place.  We contacted Dave in June of 2014 about the project and he met with us at the condo on June 20th to discuss the project and take measurements. He made sensible recommendations, like trim surrounds where they didn't exist previously, which became part of the project.  He followed up with a preliminary estimate later that month, and after some further communication and clarifications, the agreed upon estimate became the final contract dated July 18, 2014. Besides selecting the design and material of the doors (but not the manufacturer), we also selected the hardware (here we did specify a manufacturer as we particularly liked the knob sets they offered). Dave provided the hardware estimate separately, which was fine, and it was converted to a change order later on, in compliance with the contract. It was our preference to have Dave order everything--the doors and the hardware--through his supplier, since it seemed simpler from a logistical standpoint.  And we felt comfortable having Dave handle these various components, as he was professional, competent, communicative and detail-oriented.

The project started in early October, once the doors and hardware arrived and once we were able to be available. Everything was delivered to our condo, and Dave was on hand for that and to introduce the project to his installer and employee, Bill. Though some doors had to be exchanged due to wrong size, damage or defect, Dave took care of that with the supplier, and the necessary reordering was done.  This set the project back a bit, but we couldn?t fault Dave for that (the overall project, with the time add-ons for reordering and replacing some of the doors, was completed in January 2015).

Bill, the installer, was punctual, a problem solver and a hard worker. He sized and sanded the doors, installed the hardware and then hung the doors. It was labor-intensive work, and there were the challenges of door openings that had changed or were out-of-plumb (30-year-old building). Bill knew his stuff, took pride in his work, and was eager to please.  Generally, he was careful, but there were a couple of mishaps?however, Dave made good on those things.

Next came the painting.  The painter of the doors, Phil, was a subcontractor of Dave's.  Phil, who usually had at least one worker with him, was professional, punctual and careful to make sure the door hardware remained paint-free (since the installation of the doors came first, he had to paint the doors in place).  However, in the beginning, there were issues with some of his work.  Some of the brushstrokes Phil used in the recessed panels were perpendicular to each other, and this created a sort of ?shadowbox? visual effect.  Also, there were small areas under the doors where paint got on some of the carpeting, and it was obvious where he had to clean it up.  However, after bringing these things to Dave?s attention and after Dave did a walkthrough with Phil and us, we noticed an all-around improvement in Phil?s work and his use of throws/plastic sheeting to catch any paint in the carpeted areas.  While his work was satisfactory in the end, we get the impression that he is more comfortable painting flat, slab doors rather than unprimed, recessed-panel, solid-wood doors like ours that demand a high level of finish.

Dave was great with communication and developing a schedule that accommodated our schedules, and anytime there was a little hiccup during the course of the project, he made it right and wanted to make sure we were happy.  We are pleased with the overall project and Dave?s high level of customer service.

"I’m an individual who is familiar with real estate and home projects, having done many myself, and this is a true story and honest review for which I did not receive ANY incentive or compensation to write. I was selling a home in Oella, and during its structural inspection a few of the old, 1926 wooden floor joists were found to need replacement. I had interviewed a few different builders and decided to employ Persky Custom Builders.  The owner, Josh, returned my call very soon after I had made it, and our appointment to see the issue was made for the following day (Checked box - Prompt and responsive.)  Josh discussed how he would be able to not only support the structure, but actually replace some pieces  - something which the other builders felt was too difficult to do (Checked box - Knowledgeable with expert skills). There was no sales pressure; Josh was forthright and personable (Checked box - Someone I felt comfortable with).  Josh provided me the quote for the work within a couple of days, and the cost was reasonable.  It was a slight bit higher than the other quotes, but then again, he was offering me a more complex technical solution which I wanted  (Checked box - The price was right).  The work was started within a few days and completed within a week (Checked box – Efficient; stayed with project and finishes it). I was very pleased with the results;  what I thought was going to be impossible, was made possible (Checked box – Great work quality). The work site was left tidy and clean, and Josh came to meet with me to examine the final results, be sure everything was addressed, and I that was pleased (Checked box – Customer service was beyond my expectations).    I have to give Persky Custom Builders an A+.  They checked ALL my boxes for what I needed and wanted for this renovation project. I was tickled pink when the work was completed in a reasonable time frame and with attention to quality. It's not easy finding a contractor who is prompt and reliable and meets high work standards.  Thank you so much, Josh, for taking such stress off my shoulders. I would hire you again in a heartbeat! "

FAQs for sunroom or patio enclosure building service projects in Abingdon, MD

A sunroom is a fully enclosed space with walls of windows or glass. It allows you to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of the indoors, protected from bugs and weather. It functions as an additional room in your home. A covered patio extends your home's roof over an outdoor area, providing shade and shelter while remaining open to the fresh air. It's a great way to enjoy outdoor living while being protected from sun and rain.

Adding screens to your porch is the most budget-friendly way to enclose it. Screening keeps out insects and debris while letting you enjoy the breeze and outdoor ambiance. It's less expensive than installing full walls or glass enclosures and doesn't usually require permits, making it an efficient way to upgrade your porch.

If you're transforming your porch into a fully enclosed living space like a sunroom, you'll likely need a sturdy foundation, such as a reinforced concrete slab, to support the structure. For a simple screened-in porch, you might be able to use the existing floor and support posts without additional foundation work. It's best to consult a professional to determine what's needed for your project.

An enclosed porch can be considered a living space if it's fully enclosed with solid walls and windows, has a proper roof, and includes heating and cooling systems. It should also have direct access from inside your home. When these criteria are met, the space becomes an extension of your home's livable area.
