"The installers, Anthony and Jason, did a super job. They were polite, asked questions to confirm material and were neat in taking out the old shower. This company did an amazing job from consultation explaining everything to the installers that came to replace my old shower to the new. Anthony B and Jason H were very hard working, never stopping till the job was completed. I would recommend this company and its installers 100%."

"The installers seemed to have done a good job. They were extremely fast, only taking one day to completely gut and install the new shower system. Although, one handrail was installed on the wrong side. To correct the issue, they came back the next day to install another free handrail on the correct side. The only complaints that I have are the shower wand sprayed black water for about 30 seconds then stopped working. I removed the wand and the water flowed properly from the pipe. I replaced the ?new? wand with my old shower head so we could use the shower. My only other complaint is that my water pressure is about half of what it was before the installation. Since I had to replace the shower head with my original one, I had a good baseline for this comparison. All in all, we?re happy with our new walk-in shower."

Customers say: Quality work

"Very happy with our renovated bathroom. We had everything replaced: tub/shower, double vanity, toilet, floor, lights, and hardware. They were able to start the work as soon as the materials arrived. Everything went smoothly even with a few changes we requested after the work started. We will use Phelps & Sons Construction again for future projects."

"The project was on the high end of the price range, the sales guys were nice and had a well put together pitch. The guys who did the work were very nice and did great work. These guys truly were the best part. Now the down side, there was a problem with ordering the shower door and the communication around that was extremely poor. It wasn?t until I wrote an email to the customer service department did anyone get back to me about where my shower door was. Overall it took a little over a month to get the door installed after the shower was complete. That wouldn?t have been so bad if they had better communication about the project. In the end, I am happy with the shower that was installed. I would recommend them, just be prepared to be very proactive about communication if anything goes sideways."

"In 2008 the original siding contractor (Re-side Siding) replaced the whole house siding, with James Hardie Fiber Cement siding. Being a home owner we always trusted the siding contractor and assumed they would do a good job. I paid him $15,000 that included painting. I asked reside what is the warrantee. He explained to me in 2 words “50 year”. Then January 2014 the gutter repair man pointed out to me that there is some issue with our siding. So I contacted David mills owner of Re-side Siding in March 2014. He came over and inspected the siding. He said he would send the form by email to file the warrantee claim. This time I asked him again what’s the warrantee cover. Now In 3 words he said “prorated 50 years”. I asked him to explain to me more clearly. He said he has no clue how the warrantee is going to be resolved “we can both learn from this experience”. How dare he say that to me? I am the one who paid the money and he didn’t have to suffer from this at all. Later I found out that it’s a limit prorated product only warrantee and it doesn’t cover labor to replace or paint and painters. That makes me very angry because being a homeowner we paid $15,000 and after only 5 winters we are having problems. I had no clue how long the problem was going on. Being a homeowner we assumed our siding was intact. The professional saw and fortunately told me or I wouldn’t have known. The gutter guy happened to own a roofing and siding company and he asked me if Re-side siding company was going to come and correct the problem. I said no he said he will file the claim. The gutter guy was so upset. He said “how can he sleep at night and how can he do that it’s unprofessional and dishonest it wasn’t a James Hardie product problem it was because of his bad install”. The nails holding the siding plank in the front of the house weren’t nailed in secure enough and it fell off. He said if I was his customer he would promptly fix the problem. Later I read Re-side Siding (David Mills) had a bad review in December of 2009. The member nailed the character of David Mills right on and also thought he was dishonest and a liar and would not take blame for what he did wrong. I 100% agree with her. That member had the same concern about her new wavy walls about the Re-side Siding installation as I did. David Mills from Re-side Siding responded with a ridiculous excuse blaming the builder of 300+ homes in a whole neighborhood had install issues on framing saying that the builder did a poor framing job on every single home instead of incompetence, bad installation from him. Then, I found out later from siding contractors that if the studs on the walls aren't straight and irregularities in the framing are present, a skilled and good contractor will shim the wall before installing new siding, preventing from the wavy appearance. Even James Hardie claims department mentioned the shimming to me and said that when the siding planks aren't laid flat, there can be a water penetration that can cause issues later. Re-side Siding didn't do the shimming and tried to place blame on only bad framing. Re-side Siding should have shimmed and flattened the regular service before installing the siding to insure proper installation. David Mills finally sent me the claim form and then I was shocked to find out, he left out of the claim form the front of the house and garage gable with bad installation. He was trying to hide it in the claim form and didn’t report it. He said just sign it. How dare he leave out the front of the house and the garage gable?  After that he said he doesn’t want to get involve. He said this is between you and the manufacture and He is not responsible for the repairs that I needed. I was dumb founded how could he say that to me. He should have helped me and guided me through the claim process and make sure it was taken care of because he was the reason I had to do this. I left 2 messages in March 2014 and as of today he’s never called back and never checked on me to see if the problem was resolved. I thought that it was really wrong that he made money from me and my mother’s home and will have nothing to do with me or the house anymore. He goes out and solicits to new home owners for new business. He doesn’t know how important it is to help his existing customers. Since Re-side Siding was not there to guide me or give me any professional help. I contacted Angie’s List and they recommend Centennial Construction.  I talked to the owner Brent Ash. He was totally opposite than David Mills. He was very kind and very knowledgeable. He promptly showed up at my mom’s house and spent over an hour going over the house with me very carefully to point out exactly where the problem is. I really appreciated his kindness, professionalism, and compassion looking after my mom’s interest. David Mills from Re-side Siding should have been the one helping because he made the money. Brent made time for my mother’s home and went the extra mile giving his professional opinion. Throughout the year I called more than a dozen times and he would promptly answer my calls, guide me through, and answer my questions to file my claim dispute. Without him I could not dispute my claim properly, he educated me with every detail about siding and instillation. So I would have the same knowledge they have to file my claim and know what I was talking about. Now if they do a bad job I can point it out right away. With Brent’s help I resolved my siding claim very satisfactory.  Brent told me if I was his customer the homeowner wouldn’t have to do anything. He would contact the James Hardie representative and have him come to the house and go over details. He would file the claim on behalf of the homeowners and we wouldn’t have to go through the trouble. Later I invited other contractors to inspect my mom’s home. They all agree with Brent that Re-side Siding did a poor installation. Such as the James Hardie company doesn’t allow caulking between the seams (butt joints). Behind the butt joint they must put a barrier so water and moisture comes off and drains. Re-side didn’t do that. Re-side Siding used cheap caulking that dried out and cracked it and then water penetrated under the siding and caused the problem. The Re-Side worker must have ran out of delicate siding face nails. In some areas used the rough roofing nails and they caused the siding panels to cracks. It made my blood boil when the James Hardie inspector was here and inspected the house and later the claim department almost didn’t cover my mother’s warrantee because of Re-sides bad installation. The claim department mentioned they used the rough roofing nails and didn't shim the wall too. If Re-Side wants to stay in the business he should learn from Brent how to take care of his customers and install correctly. When I talked to Re-side he said he never heard of James Harie product having issues. When I first hired him he gave me 2 choices- James Hardie or Certainteed Fiber Cement Siding. He talked about Certainteed Fiber Cement Siding having problems and said he does put it on a lot of homes including my neighbors who recommended Mr. Mills. When he said that CertainTeed siding is bad, I didn’t feel like he had any remorse for the poor homeowners that are going to have problems now because he sold them this product. Every single contractor I talked to said they wouldn’t even sell the CertainTeed product anymore. I feel really bad for those homeowners who have it. From the bottom of my heart I appreciate that Brent protected my mom’s interest and guided me through the claim process. He always answered my calls and helped me even though he wasn’t the one who did the bad work and wasn’t the original contractor."

FAQs for shower installation and replacement projects in Alamo, IN

Replacing your tub with a shower can modernize your bathroom and improve accessibility, often providing a high return on investment. However, if it's the only bathtub in your home, removing it may decrease resale value, as many buyers look for at least one bathtub. Consider your long-term plans and consult a real estate professional if resale value is a concern.

While showers cost slightly more to install than tubs, the overall expense depends on various factors such as materials, size, and features. A tub installation costs $2,400 to $8,800 on average, whereas showers average $2,000 to $9,400. Custom designs, luxury fixtures, or extensive plumbing work can increase costs for both options. It's important to assess your specific needs and budget when deciding between installing a shower or a tub.

Converting a tub to a shower generally takes between one and three days. The timeline depends on the complexity of the project, materials chosen, and whether plumbing modifications are necessary. Installing a standard prefabricated shower can be completed quickly, while custom tile work or extensive plumbing changes may extend the project's duration. Planning accordingly can help minimize disruptions during the conversion.

Converting a tub to a shower offers several benefits, including saving space and making your bathroom feel more open and modern. Showers improve accessibility, especially for those with mobility challenges, by eliminating the need to step over a high tub wall. Additionally, updating to a stylish shower can enhance your bathroom's aesthetic appeal and may increase your home's resale value if another tub is available elsewhere in the house.

Choosing between a shower stall and a custom shower depends on your budget and preferences. Prefabricated stalls are less expensive and faster to install but offer limited styles. Custom showers allow personalization of size, materials, and features but cost more and require professional installation. Evaluate your needs and budget to select the best option for your space.

If you’re converting a tub to a shower, you may want to consider remodeling your whole bathroom. The ROI on bathroom remodels is high (over 70%), so you can enjoy an upgraded bathroom while you live in your home and get your money back if you decide to sell later. The average cost to remodel a bathroom is around $6,600 to $16,600, so factor in this price range when you’re budgeting for your project.

Converting a tub to a shower alone isn't easy to DIY, so look for a bathroom remodeler near you if you decide to take on a larger bathroom remodel to ensure it's done correctly.
