"George was very professional when we first dealt with him and did a satisfactory job.  However, when we wanted him to do smaller jobs, he did not respond or set up dates to come and then did not show up nor did he call.  His father, who is the actual owner of George's Painting, came to our house for an estimate to have 3 closet shelves installed (the metal mesh type) for hwich he wanted $650.00.  We thought that was entirely too much as the material cost less than $100.  We looked for someone else off of Angie's list and got an excellent person who only charged $200 which was more reasonable and on top of that did an excellent job.    In addition we are having numerous other things done at reasonable prices.  Had I waited a bit longer, I could have gotten my house painted much cheaper as well.  George is overpriced and does not respond when you call or will he make an appointment with you and then not keep it.  I am glad I found someone else who is capable of doing what we want, is professional, does excellent work and his price is more reasonable.    I have already had work done by this other company and we are very satisfied.

"It went very well.  Anthony and his crew were very professional, courteous and attentive to details.   The crew arrived on schedule everyday.  I so enjoyed working with the crew that on three days I bought coffee and bread for them in the early mornings.  The entire job took about six days (there were some rain delays). My row house in upper NW DC is 87 years old, and now it is easily the most attractive home from the curb on my block.  They did an excellent job scraping, priming and then repainting the front Tudor wood beams (a dark chocolate brown), repairing and repainting the stucco (white), caulking windows, and repainting iron handrails.  The chocolate brown wood now pops on the newly painted white stucco.
Anthony Barrera was always desiring to make me satisfied. Proof of this is that Anthony has offered to do one more small indoor painting job for FREE, just to makeup for one occasion when he wasn't able to meet an agreed to appointment. I told him this is very kind of him, and it's great customer service. They did a great job all around, and I'd happily work with them again."

"They took all all to do the work and after they left and I looked at the job they did it was sloppy at best.I requested they come back and redo some of their sloppy and careless work, However the repair of the water damage was good."

"The technicians redid the bricks so that you couldn't even tell they were repaired. It looked beautiful. They put in a new liner in the chimney and waterproofed it. They redid the inside of the fireplace to bring it up to code and put in a chain that easily opens and closes the flue. It looks so good and easy that I may decide to use the fireplace again. They redid the pipes in the basement so the fumes from the boiler and hot water heater went up the chimney in the correct way. There had been water damage and they corrected the damage and closed off the hole in the wall (foundation) and made a bigger hole in the correct place so that everything was up to code. They were polite, efficient and worked very hard to get the work done in the promised two days. I have interviewed many companies and found this company to be straight-forward in telling me what they would do and didn't try to tell me they were giving me a "good deal." Rather I feel they gave me an honest estimate on what needed to be done and didn't try to pressure me into using their company. They did give me 10% off because I was an Angie's List customer. What company to use was a hard decision for me because I knew nothing about chimney repair. Because so much of the repair was inside the chimney I couldn't tell what they had done. Based on my experience I feel they did a good job. I don't have a picture of the repaired chimney but it looks great--better than it did before the bricks fell. If someone wants more detail I can copy exactly what they did from the invoice. Also, maybe the company can show a picture of the finished product. Since it is summer time I haven't had any experience using the chimney but will let you know how things work out during the winter."

"We previously used Ruxton for our bathroom remodel a few years ago and they did a wonderful job. We recently called them back to help us with improving our kitchen. We weren't sure if we wanted a complete remodel or just a refresh. Frank came in and gave us some great ideas and made it worth going with a complete remodel and design. He spent a few days doing the design and we met with him at his new showroom. As in the past, he did not disappoint. His design and ideas for our kitchen were great! My kitchen looks amazing! The work was completed on time and at the budget we were aiming for. The workers were on time and very polite. We would definitely recommend Frank and Ruxton to anyone interested in a new kitchen or bathroom. Thank you for another great job Frank!"

"Giving a farmhouse estate circa 1842 a fresh renovation and quality paint job required a combination of old school workmanship and current technology. The family owned and operated two generation crew of Pintail Painting was the absolute best choice possible for this project. The main farmhouse required tender loving care as 160 years of multiple paint layers were skillfully and gradually taken down to the original siding. Necessary woodworking repairs were completed by the Village Carpenter and the patching and painting were artfully completed by Pintail Painting. The end product was nothing shy of magnificent. Their strong work ethic and expertise, combined with many years of masterful painting experience made this project a huge success. This project had been postponed year after year to properly budget and select the right crew to complete this project. The working cooperation of a Master Carpenter from the Village Carpenter and outstanding painters from Pintail Painting completed this project through every square-foot of the estate. The pictures do not do justice to the quality workmanship that went into this project. Not only is Pintail Painting highly recommended, they are a versatile Contractor to handle exterior, interior, covered areas, and any other project worthy of taking fresh paint too. Although this project represented every extreme, the professionals at Pintail Painting stuck to their estimate, stayed on budget, and consistently maintained a level of communication worthy of their reputation. Of great concern for this project was the EPA certification and job site safety standards maintained for all of the lead based restoration. Working areas were draped, tarped, and vacuumed clean daily even on the roof surfaces, gutters, ground surface, and all of the leaded debris was accounted for and properly hauled away in compliance with the EPA guidelines and restrictions. We could not of hope for a more professional, cost-efficient, and more personable company for all of our painting projects. They completed the extreme gable and rooftop painting, all sides to the farmhouse on the estate, porch columns and railings, covered porch surfaces, deck work, shutters, 160-year-old woodworking was handled with extreme care and masterful preservation by the Village Carpenter. On a side note, windows were replaced, interior painting was completed, and at the end of every day, the job site was clean and prepared for the next day of the project. There simply is no other choice for a consumer wanting a quality, old-school strong work ethic and masterful skill level painting job completed per your request, at your direction, and at a cost qualifying every dollar spent. We will undoubtedly be using this fine company again and again and cannot offer any higher recommendation for their services. Interestingly enough, they shared that they will consider any size project. They will do small projects, or even tackle the exterior and interior of a 6000 ft.² farmhouse estate like this 1842 landmark. You'll find no better. Many thanks again to the family and crew of Pintail Painting.

"Whenever I hire painters from Kargmans, they consistently do excellent work regardless of the project type. As with all contractors, on-site communication before, during and after the project is the key to success. Randy and his teammate (apologies, I forgot to write down your name) started this work by doing some extra prep tasks that my husband had not been able to complete. When I pointed out the areas that needed small repairs or sanding, they got to work right away and handled these tasks in a very professional manner. When it turned out that I had gotten the wrong color paint for one of the rooms (which I discovered after they had already started to paint the closet), Randy told me that there were no problems. He would let the closet paint dry and start over again with the replacement color paint. No matter what task I asked them to do, they completed each job with professionalism, courtesy and good humor. I will continue to hire Kargman's painters for each area of my renovation. Over the past three years, they have water-proof painted my basement, sealed new wallboard, painted the kitchen, family area, living room, hallways and now the bedrooms and bath. As long as you communicate clearly verbally (yes, some of the painters speak Spanish and I do not) and with actions, you will get exactly what you need/want/paid for. I highly recommend these professionals."

FAQs for traditional stucco repair or partially replace projects in Arnold, MD

Minor stucco fixes—like sealing small cracks or adding fresh caulk—often wrap up in an hour or two. Larger jobs that call for cutting out damaged sections, installing new lath, and layering fresh stucco can stretch to three or four days because each coat needs time to cure. A pro removes loose material, cleans and dampens the area, applies a bonding agent, and builds up new layers, matching texture and restoring the wall’s weather shield.

Watch for a stucco surface that stays damp days after a storm, develops dark stains, or feels soft or spongy under light pressure. Inside, moisture rings, peeling paint, or soft drywall around windows point to the same issue. Any of these red flags mean water is trapped behind the siding, and it’s time to call a stucco pro before rot or mold sets in.

Give your stucco a once-over every spring and fall. Semiannual checks let you catch hairline cracks, stains, or damp spots before they snowball into pricey repairs. Keep a flashlight handy, look closely around windows and doors, and call a pro if you notice anything soft or discolored. Staying ahead of minor issues protects both your curb appeal and your home’s weather barrier.

A pro starts by scraping away loose material, then cleans and lightly wets the area so new stucco will stick. After brushing on a bonding agent, they build fresh layers, letting each coat cure before adding the next. The final step is matching the texture and color so the patch blends in and the wall regains full weather protection.

Think of repair as a patch: the pro fixes only the visible crack or hole. Remediation goes deeper—crews strip away the compromised stucco, correct the root problem (often water or mold), then rebuild the wall. If tests show structural rot or trapped moisture, remediation is the safer, longer-lasting route; otherwise, a straightforward repair often does the trick.
