"Very well! The communication between the office, me and the installers was spot on. The installers were professional, hard working, and the job was done in one day. All my questions and concerns were dealt with in a timely manner and to my satisfaction. This business is about doing quality work, listening to the customer, in a timely reasonably priced manner. We will use them again when we finish replacing the carpet in the rest of the bedrooms."

"Owner Jimmy and crew were very punctual. Materials arrived on time and installation began in the kitchen. This was an all day job involving a lot of meticulous cutting. The prior installation had been sloppy and seams were covered with caulking to cover the uneven installation. All the floor molding was carefully removed and replaced. In addition I had wooden strips placed between the rooms instead of the metal strips. The upstairs bathroom was quicker. There had been a leak and Jimmy replaced the flooring that was soft before beginning the installation. He also alerted me to a new area of concern on the toilet so I contacted a plumber. <br />Judy, co-owner and Sarah and Sandy the sales associates were very helpful in assisting me to select the right product for my needs and budget. This is a family run business and I have used there services before to install carpeting throughout my house. They take a great deal of pride in their work. No wonder they have been in the flooring business for approximately 40 years. I am happy to recommend Jimmy's Carpets. <br /> <br />"

"Excellent service! Made a call to request a price quote, Barbara was able to come out and take measurements that afternoon, called w/estimate the next day, and worked with my schedule to get the work on the calendar. Their installers knocked out the work in one day (second floor and staircase of a small Cape Cod), including removal of old carpet, and everything looked great when they were done!"

"I had old, dated vinyl floors in my large kitchen. I wasn't quite ready to make the investment in hardwood floors, so Mike helped me pick vinyl flooring to cover the existing flooring. Unbelievable selection, so that was the hardest part. They let me take a whole sample book home to finalize my choice. Price was fair. Ordering was quick and installation was only a few days later. It took his crew less than five hours to install. They look amazing! I am so happy that now I'm not sure I'm ever going to want hardwood."

"Scott and his team did an excellent job. They did installation of new hardwood, sanding and staining of existing hardwood. Scott tried a few stain colors until the color matched with a new hardwood. Even they covered with hardwood some areas which we did not ask. Communication was good and I would recommend Scott’s hardwood for any hardwood work."

"It took an entire day for two workers (subcontractors for Home Depot) to install the floor. They worked continually to complete the installation by day's end. The floor looks great and appears to be expertly installed (pattern matches exactly, edges are neat, etc.) There was a problem with a sliding door coming off the track due to the way the floor was installed, but the Home Depot flooring manager and an associate personally came to my home and made the repair at no additional cost."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Ashland, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
