"I don't remember exact dates... but I originally contacted Thompson's Masonry in May 2013.  Bob came out in early June 2013 and wrote an estimate.  We originally just wanted tuckpointing, but since it was a smaller job and that alone wouldn't be worth his time, he suggested fixing the crack in the front porch at the same time.  He seemed very knowledgeable and for both tuckpointing and concrete repair, his estimate was reasonable.  We scheduled the job for mid-July.  I remember there was some back-and-forth in trying to get a hold of the company throughout the process of getting the estimate and scheduling... but nothing I would consider unreasonable for a busy small business.
When the time came for the job, Thompson's was backlogged with work due to all the rain we got in July that pushed back other jobs.  I wasn't happy about having to reschedule, but our repairs weren't an emergency and I'm understanding that no one can control the weather. Even though the date got pushed back and there were some communication issues, I still felt Thompson's Masonry was the best of the businesses we received estimates from.
The work was finally done on September 6 and it was worth the wait!  Bob was very thorough.  He walked around the entire house with me inspecting every bit of exposed brick.  He repaired small cracks that I wouldn't have even noticed until they became bigger issues.  I was happy to have it all taken care of at once.  The tuckpointing turned out great.  The color matches exactly.  In the picture I've included, the part they did is the vertical line.  The color on the concrete repair doesn't match quite as well... but it looks a LOT better than it did before!  They also sprayed all the brick with a sealer to repel water.
Overall, I'm very happy.  Thompson's Masonry definitely exceeded our expectations!

"Buckeye Waterproofing correctly diagnosed a problem we had with water coming under our garage floor into our utility room and family room during a serious storm.   They  cleaned our gutters. filled a crack in the exterior wall of the garage foundation, dug a hole in the garage floor to make sure there was no water there and refilled it. They were very efficient and treated us very respectfully. We have had no further problems.

"My wife and I are licensed architects and very particular and demanding of our contractors. Bob explained the technology of his products and took the time to listen and understand the job. He was flexible and able to use the particular shingle we wanted which wasn't his preferred brand. We also replaced a flat roofed porch and, on the week of the job, we asked that he install a roll roofing material that closely matched the roof shingles' color. He quickly located that particular material which was not at his usual supplier. Most contractors would not have catered to their clients as he did. His workers showed up when they said and were neat and courteous. The flat roof took much longer than expected due to the difficulty of removing the railing, but they didn't charge more. The roofs look great and we are glad to have chosen Northeast Ohio Renovations."

"Inspector was on time and very professional.  I certainly got my money's worth from the inspection.  Lots of useful information. No

high pressure sales tactics or dire predictions if I did not do all suggested work - just good solid information and a priority list of what was most important to address.  Options were given on possible methods of repair and the pros and cons of each was discussed.  All questions were answered and the inspector was very informative.  He took the time to be very thorough and I definitely recommend this provider to anyone who is considering foundation or basement work.

FAQs for concrete foundation installation projects in Ashtabula, OH

A concrete footer is a relatively shallow column of concrete that sits below your foundation walls. Footers spread wider than the foundation, so they can support a higher amount of weight in critical spots, such as below walls. The exact dimensions of footers depend on the home, so larger structures need a larger footing.

To calculate footing size, you need to know the minimum width and depth for houses in your region. Multiplying the width by the linear footprint of the structure will give you the size in linear feet.

To convert linear feet into square feet, you can divide the width by 12. For example, an 18-inch footer is 1.5 square feet per linear foot. Multiply this number by the total in linear feet to get the answer in square feet.

Installing a pier and beam foundation costs $5 per square foot, or $8,000 to $15,000. This style is standard in homes built before the 1960s or those in flood-prone areas.

Concrete weight support ranges from 1,500 to 6,500 pounds per square inch, and footings need at least 3,500 to 4,500 pounds per square inch. Remember that your soil type, climate, and materials used will significantly affect how much weight your footings can hold, especially in certain areas.

It costs between $1,600 and $3,200 to pour a 20-by-20-foot concrete slab. These estimates are based on an average cost to pour a concrete slab of $4 to $8 per square foot. Be sure to discuss the specifics with a pro—they’ll give you an estimate of how much you can expect.

The cost to raise a house is between $3,200 and $10,000. This range refers to a form of repair that involves lifting the entire house to potentially remove the old foundation and build a new one or add to an existing one.
