"A1A worked with us to remove asbestos from our basement. I had to follow up several times to get a quote and get the abatement scheduled, but after that was complete, they were very responsive, thorough, and helpful. Would recommend!"

"Atlanta Basements LLC impressed us right away with their responsiveness in getting us a quote and tentative design. They returned our call the SAME DAY, visited us the following weekend, and got a quote to us a week after that. We tried 2 other companies prior to Atlanta Basements LLC; the first company took 2 weeks more than estimated to get us a quote, and we never heard back from the second one. The work got started a little late, but once started it went very fast. Communication was top-notch; they send Google Calendar invites for when they expect specific work to be done (framing, pluming, electrical, etc.) and update the calendar when things don't go as planned. The company puts a lock on your basement door and locks themselves out of the rest of your house, so they can get contractors in to do work when you're away from home (at work, etc.) My wife and I would come home and checked progress every evening, sometimes they were still there working. When they were not there and we had questions, the project manager ALWAYS answered his phone to discuss the work being done (again, top-notch communication). There were hiccups and issues, but the company always did what they could to make things right. For example, we had an extra programmable thermostat that we supplied in place of their non-programmable standard offering. Unfortunately, one of their contractors walked off with it. The Atlanta Basements project manager made sure he got us another (programmable) one installed. There were also small repairs that the project manager handled, at no extra charge! We asked for quotes to fix them, and in some cases he just took care of them. The price was a little more than we were expecting to pay, but we upgraded a few fixtures, carpet, and tile from the standard offerings (which increased the price), and after seeing the finished product, we are really happy. Some advice to anyone finishing their basement: it REALLY helps to know what you want. Have as much detail as possible. Put tape on the floor where you want the walls to go; draw pictures of any built-in shelves you want made. Study drawings and mock-ups that the contractors send you, and provide feedback early. It's much easier to change lines on a drawing than it is to knock down a finished wall. And listen to advice of the experts; they have done this before a few times."

FAQs for toxic lead service projects in Atlanta, GA

Your standard homeowners’ policy won’t pay for lead paint removal because insurers treat it as a maintenance issue, not a sudden loss. If a covered event like a fire or flood damages a lead-painted wall, the carrier will replace that wall but not cover full abatement. Plan to budget for lead removal yourself, or look into state or local grant programs that offset the cost.

Yes, you can sell, but federal law says you must disclose any known lead paint and share paperwork for past remediation or encapsulation. Honest disclosure protects you from legal trouble and helps buyers understand any work that still needs doing. Many sellers also offer a closing credit to cover future abatement, so talk to your real estate agent about local norms.

Lead paint contains the heavy metal lead, which becomes airborne when the coating chips, peels, or turns into dust. Breathing in or swallowing that dust allows lead to accumulate in your body and can trigger headaches, cognitive delays, organ damage, and other serious issues, especially in children and pets.

Because the danger hides in everyday activities like opening a window or sweeping a floor, complete removal or professional encapsulation is the safest long-term fix.

Plan on spending $200 to $400 on lead inspection costs. A certified tester will scan walls, trim, and other surfaces with an X-ray fluorescence device, zeroing in on high-risk spots throughout your home. The report will spell out where lead is present and how severe it is, giving you the facts you need to budget for removal and keep everyone safe.
