"If you are looking for a 5 stars shower remodel that is top quality (material and work), look no further. My experience with Hill Country Tub and Shower was the best. Travis came to my house with all the answers to my problems, friendly and easy to talk to. He did not pressure me and answered my calls after. Installation day started bright and early with Phil and Bee covering my furniture and floors where they were going to walk. Very courteous and professional. It took them 2 days to finish the most perfect and beautiful work i have seen done in a shower. Phil stayed after he was done to make sure i understood the new features of my shower and answer a few last questions. I 100% recommend this company for a shower remodeling. I am just sorry i did not do my sink at the same time. Guest bathroom will have to be next!!!! The icing on the cake is that i don’t ever need to clean between the tiles again as the entire wall is one piece and so is the floor ( anti slip is a bonus). extremely satisfied client here!!!!"

"Julius and Matthew did an awesome job removing the old garden tub and installing a walk in shower. I live outside of San Antonio, they arrived both days on time. The floor was covered to protect it while they went in and out with this project . They were courteous and polite, and knew exactly what they were doing. Thanks again!"

"Plumber, Mr. Al Mac was extremely helpful! He arrived on time and very thoroughly assessed problem and assured me that he had EVERYTHING needed to complete the job. It started pouring down rain and loud lightning, but he completed the job! Water leak repaired and water back on. I highly recommend this company and Plumber! If, (hopefully no time soon), I need a plumber, Al is my man!!!"

"Eli with Alter Construction is an amazing GC to work with. My husband and I wanted to change out the the shower door and floor of our master bathroom. This was a small job and most GCs refused to do anything less than the entire bathroom. We spoke to someone regarding replacing the shower door and that person (Hero, with Shower Doors Today) referred us to Eli for the tile work. Eli was exceptional to work with. He spoke with us and told us step by step what to expect and what needed to be done, including any worse case scenarios that may arise. They began work within a few days. Luis, his main tile worker, was punctual and very respectful and worked efficiently and diligently. Despite not being able to use my bathroom for several days, this was an overall pleasant experience. We still need to get the door installed which will happen in a week but the tile work is beautiful and I can't wait to use my shower once everything is complete. Thank you Eli and Luis!"

"Shai and the ADR team presented a plan to convert a tub into a walk-in shower to facilitate use by individuals with disabilities. The plan had to be modified along the way, due in part to the limited amount of space and the adjustments were made without problem. They were even able to perfectly match the existing paint, thus saving the cost of re-painting the entire room The result was an attractive and usable room. I recommend the company for your renovation needs."

"It did not go very well. As far as covering the doorway, it took the man who came out probably four times to get it right and I am looking at it and I am still seeing some unevenness in the hallway. He did not do a very good job of finishing up. It was not a great experience. My husband finally just asked him to just leave and he would just finish up everything. He started the work in April and it ended in May. It took a while for the work to be done because we had to work during the day and we did not want anybody in our house during that time. There are things that we still have to take care of. He put a caulking on the island that is like a pillar between the island and the wall and it is coming off. He did not put the right caulking on there. So, we are going to have to redo that. I do not know enough about construction but it is not right. I can get that caulking off with my finger. He covered the doorway so it is a wall now and made a larger cabinet where he put a butcher block countertop on it. There are things that my husband just got frustrated with that he was taking so long to do. We have a stained concrete floor where the island was and now it is like a peninsula and he was supposed to refinish that but then my husband just got frustrated with him. And so, things just did not get done and that was because my husband asked him to just stop and leave. He seemed like a really nice guy and he seemed like he knew what he was doing. He put a big television above our mantel and that seemed to be well and it works but as far as the construction part of the job, it did not go well."

"This project took considerably longer than the company originally estimated; and, within weeks of completion, two plumbing issues occurred that required some of the work to be redone. During the design phase, the architect went on vacation. While the estimated project completion was not impacted (the estimate did not include the design phase), it did lengthen the time we'd allotted to have the project completed. Also, during the project, there appeared to be a problem between the company's project manager and at least two of the subcontractors. During the shower "tiling phase", the company's "project manager" actually did some of the tiling work himself. The work was then transferred to a subcontractor. In fact, we are pleased with the final product; however, a minor plumbing issue (behind the tile) remains that we have not had corrected. Further, prior to the tiling phase, Austin Handyman referred us to several local sources from which to chose the specific tile we wanted. After visiting all locations, we selected tile from one. As the actual date for the tiling approached and we were well passed our target completion date, I agreed and picked up the tile and associated work material, transported it to the house, and staged it for use by the tiling subcontractor. Had I not done this, the project would have been further delayed. Also, the company subcontracted out the glass work associated with the shower. Again, we are well pleased with the final product; but, the subcontractor had to be recalled to correct a leak/leaks. A final annoying fact was that Austin Handyman sent us a final invoice for payment prior to the work actually being completed. When I called the company, the billing department was unaware that the project wasn't done. The company apologized and retracted the billing statement; but, I didn't feel it was professional for the billing department to not confirm work completion before sending out the final notice. Please note, this work was done during 2014, nearly three years ago. While we are generally pleased with the final outcome, we have deferred other renovation work due to the challenges we faced with this project."

Small jobs welcome

"JD did an awesome job in transforming my old bathroom into a more modern look. He was efficient regarding the time taken to complete the bathroom, and his prices were fair and reasonable. He has integrity that I have not seen with other contractors. During the walk-through, after the job was completed, JD did not hesitate fix on the spot anything that found that was found that needed attention. I highly recommend JD construction! "

FAQs for walk in tub installation and replacement projects in Austin, TX

Because Medicare classifies walk-in tubs as non-durable medical equipment, it generally won’t pick up the tab. Medicaid can help if a doctor certifies that the tub is medically necessary, but rules change by state. Call your plan early, ask which forms you need, and keep any prescriptions or letters on file to improve your odds of reimbursement.

A walk-in bathtub’s fill and drain times hinge on your home’s water pressure and the tub’s hardware. Most models with a fast-fill faucet need about six to eight minutes to fill and two to three minutes to drain; larger basins or standard drains can tack on an extra 10 minutes. Stay seated until the water is completely gone so you don’t swing the door open on a full tub’s worth of water.

A walk-in bathtub holds 50 gallons of water, and its design supports capacities that range from 40 to 80 gallons, depending on the product. In contrast, a standard bathtub holds 25 to 45 gallons. This capacity is determined by the fixed design of the tub and its construction materials. Homeowners should review the detailed product specifications to confirm the exact volume available for use during bath time.

Walk-in tubs are tax-deductible when the purchase qualifies as a necessary medical expense and meets the IRS criteria. Caregivers who install a walk-in tub also qualify for the Dependent Care Tax Credit under specific conditions. Homeowners must verify these requirements with the IRS and consult a tax professional, as state and program guidelines enforce strict documentation standards for such deductions.
