"We selected DMV based on our previous experience with the company, starting with Rolando who successfully remodeled our kitchen and 3 baths back in 2015. This time we had an emergency and Javier responded quickly, asking his men to remove a cracked tub and demolish the surrounding tiles. In their place they installed a new tub and plumbing plus beautiful new tiles for the surrounding wall, adding 2 grab bars, one for the tub and the other for the Master shower to prevent our slipping and falling. They cleaned the grout in our Master shower and Hall tub, applied silicone and sealant, and painted the baseboard and wall near the tub. Aside from the work in the bathroom and shower, they replaced the screen in an exterior window, secured some areas in the garage ceiling with screws, and removed, painted and reinstalled our exterior shutters. Muchas gracias to David and David! Bon trabajo! During the early, uncertain days of the Pandemic when we were nervous to have anyone do remodeling inside our house, we asked Javier to do some work outdoors. He ordered a wood storage shed from Home Depot and it was delivered to our front yard without telling anyone. The DMV men unpacked the box and discovered some necessary parts were missing so returned to Home Depot to buy them. They leveled the slope in our backyard and set the foundation for the shed. Then they added shingles, windows, doors, and a ramp. They painted the outside of the shed and added a ramp, selecting a sturdier paint for the latter. They installed a screen all around the bottom edge of the shed to provide ventilation and keep the animals out. Finally they moved the items to be stored from our garage to the new shed, opening up more space in the garage for the remodeling of the 1st and 2nd floors of our house. Muchas gracias to Jose, Carmina, Orlando, and Wilmer! Bon trabajo! Finally after a long wait due to the Pandemic we remodeled the 1st and 2nd floors of our house with Javier once again in charge. The workmen skillfully disassembled and/or moved furniture, file cabinets, supplies, and 100s of books and other items to different locations in the house and garage. Then they installed new lighting: 53 recessed lights, 9 dimmers, and a new electrical outlet near the vanity. When a bookcase was added on the right side of my new digital organ they moved the organ to the left along with 2 recessed lights shining above the organ to more effectively illuminate the music rack. And finally they installed a special circuit breaker for the organ. They installed cabling for 3 internet connections to the computer network giving access to the basement, living room, and 2nd floor. They installed the wiring for electrical power to 3 printers, one on each floor. Next they replaced our carpet with beautiful hardwood floors in 7 rooms, a small hallway, and a stairway. They removed 5 single doors on the 2nd floor and replaced them with solid core doors. They installed and painted 2 bi-folding doors for our utility closets. They painted the walls in 7 rooms, a small hallway, and a stairway first removing wallpaper in one room and 2 wall borders. They took special care in the den, repairing one wall and a big hole in the ceiling before painting. They did a great job of painting the ceilings, touching up 4 textured ceilings and smoothing out 3 others in a more elaborate process that included repairing drywall and removing texture, preparing the ceiling for painting, and then actually painting it. They installed and painted shoe molding in 7 rooms. And last but not least they repaired bathroom door frame and painted the nearby wall and a baseboard that had some paint splotches from a previous job. The DMV workmen did some additional jobs not related to repairing and painting walls and ceilings, or installing hardwood floors. The installed 5 smoke detectors, 7 curtain rods, a new Bosch dishwasher, and new blinds to replace blinds accidently damaged. They caulked a bathtub, cleaned grout in a shower and caulked the area near its door. In order to prevent heavy bookcases from toppling over they secured 10 bookcases to the wall. And in a final visit they even tightened screws in the kitchen cabinets installed by the previous DMV contractor. Muchas gracias to the 2 Maynors, Geovany, Jesus, David, Danillo, Diego and the flooring team, Grover, Luis, Orlando, and Fairo. Bon travajo! The quality of materials and workmanship on the outdoor shed and remodeling of bathroom, first and second floors was exceptional. Because we are an elderly couple we really appreciated the extra help in moving things around throughout the projects. The workmen were punctual, polite, honest, skilled, hardworking, and flexible in adjusting to changes from time to time. They always took care in sealing off work areas, covering floors, and cleaning up at the end of the day. The price seems reasonable because sometimes they did extra work not previously budgeted like extra painting or changes when were not satisfied or had new ideas. Javier is great at planning, communicating and executing the work, but could certainly benefit from having a right-hand man to assist him when he is not immediately available. We would highly recommend DMV and have already signed a contract for remodeling our basement that includes vinyl flooring, lighting, painting, and installation of storage shelves. "We cannot speak highly enough about how happy we are with Two Brothers - They have absolutely earned our loyalty as lifetime clients. We are already planning our next project with them. And we are confident and eager to recommend Two Brothers to all of our neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family. I could speak at length about the challenges we faced on this project, none of which were Two Brothers' fault, and how well Two Brothers handled everything, from an entire shipment of tile arriving shattered, to the 6 (yes, 6) reorders and/or replacements of tubs and toilets. The thing you really should know, though, is that Ruben and his team ALWAYS put our needs, wants, and best interests first. Unlike any contractor we've worked with before, Ruben took personal ownership of making our bathroom perfect. Through all the shipping issues, manufacturer errors, surprises of a 100 year-old home, and even our very specific, sometimes last minute, custom requests - We had complete trust and confidence in Ruben, Nancy, and the rest of his team. Even our neighbors have commented about how conscientious Two Brother's team were of their property. Project details: Relocate Sink, Tub, and Toilet plumbing and vents Install new sink Install new freestanding tub and freestanding widespread tub faucet Install new skirted toilet Install floating vanity Install floor tile Install wall tile Install built-in shelving as well as other 3 other shelves Relocate electrical outlet"

"Matt yusufhanoglu and his company Living colors did a phenomenal job in restoring my 1958 ranch house into a gem. The house was empty and in terrible condition on the inside. With the help of his architect Matt was able to present me with multiple choices based on the open floor plan that I wanted in the main living area. This included tearing down an attached room and building a beautiful sunlit addition that extended the kitchen area and added a sun room. Matt and his site lead Carlos also creatively found space to add a full second bathroom to make the house an efficient 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. I can’t say enough about the quality of the work and the amazing interior design selections such as cabinets, windows, flooring and associated hardware that made this house my dream come true."

"LFC did a excellent job remodeling my master bathroom. Tony was very patient during our initial consultation and took detailed notes as I described my vision to him. We turned an outdated bathroom into a beautiful spa-like masterpiece. I surrendered a spacious linen closet in the space to get double sinks. We updated the plumbing, floors and cabinetry; added much needed lighting to brighten up the space and found ways to implement space saving features/fixtures for a more efficient use of square footage - the pocket door was a hit. I initially wanted a barn door- I'm so glad Tony convinced me to go with the pocket door. Tony Heard and his team (Omar, Jose, Douglas and Uncle Merc) are true professionals. I especially appreciated the respect and care they took in planning for the project (pre-construction walkthrough, prepping the worksite, daily clean-up, printed schedules, constant communication- and yes he answers email and phone calls) Not only did we (my husband) enjoy having them in our home, our fur-baby terrier enjoyed the daily belly rubs. You won't be disappointed, we have several other projects waiting for Tony and his team."

"I purchased the Angies list deal to have backsplash installed in my kitchen. After purchasing the deal, I called to schedule the consultation. No one was available, so I left a message. I followed in the next couple days and Michael came out for the consult. Michael is very knowledgeable and pleasant. We had a very lengthy conversation, as there were some other projects that we were also considering. We decided to pay extra to have the membrane installed behind the backsplash as well as edge trim. Michael said that he'd follow up with me with an updated estimate for the additional work while we considered whether we wanted additional updates done to our kitchen.

About 2 weeks later, we had not gotten the updated estimate. We decided not to have any additional work done so I followed up with Michael to schedule the job. I sent a couple emails with no reply. I followed up with a phone call a couple days later, at which time he also read the emails. He scheduled the project for the following Monday and said that I had to pay the balance by noon the next day to guarantee the services. I paid to make sure we'd get the project completed. Michael called Sunday afternoon to ask about rescheduling since they had double booked. I explained that my husband had already taken the day off for the work to be completed. They were able to work it out so the work could be completed.

They did a great job on the installation. The worker (sorry, I don't know his name) stayed past 5 to finish the job and cleaned up. Michael also followed up a few days later to make sure we were satisfied and to say that he would be out to put the sealant on the backsplash. After that call, my husband called, I emailed and called. It took about 3 weeks to get the sealant portion completed.

City Renovations is a good company that does very good work. And as I said before, Michael is very pleasant and knowledgeable. However, the responsiveness is an issue. I would have been much more frustrated if this were a bigger project.

"We love our kitchen! Home Break Through did a wonderful job. The job ended up being a much bigger job than expected and Both Fransisco and Honika were beyond helpful with helping us understand what needed to be done to make the space as secure as possible. The end result is absolutely gorgeous. The one problem I have is with the wood floor installation. They dont feel quite as good to walk on as the new wood floors (installed by a flooring company) in the other room. And there was some attention to detail that was lacking when installing the wood flooring, in my opinion. There are some gaps and bowing of the floors. Also, they did not match it up well enough with the adjoining room and there is a weird gap there now. This bothers me quite a bit and as a result I would not hire them for wood floor installation again. Make sure you get Fransisco to do a final walkthrough with you, we didn't do that and wish we had."

"We hired Gomez Contractors for our master bathroom remodeling after seeing their great reviews on Google. I have to say that we are extremely pleased with how our bathroom turned out and how beautiful it looks. Santos and his team were extremely professional and accommodated all of our requests. They showed up on time every day for the duration of the remodel, and they provided high quality service. The company is affordable and Santos worked within our budget without charging any hidden fees. Everyone on his team is extremely friendly and we felt comfortable having them in our home working on our bathroom. We are definitely using them again for our next project. Highly recommend!"

"The Elite Home Remodeling Group did a phenomenal job. We live in a late 1800’s farm house close to DC. Most of the plumbing and electrical work is original. The job started out as just a plumbing project to fix a leaking pipe but after taking with Sydney about every we needed it turned into a plumbing project, a dining room repair and refresh. Angel and his team were punctual and professional. They made sure that my husband and I knew what they were doing and why as they moved through our project. Access to other parts of our home were blocked off to reduce the dust and debris. The project was completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to our daily routine. It took two days even with the additional work we requested. My husband and I couldn’t be happier with our new plumbing and beautiful dining room. We will definitely be using the Elite Home Remodeling Group again."

FAQs for walk in tub installation and replacement projects in Washington, DC

Because Medicare classifies walk-in tubs as non-durable medical equipment, it generally won’t pick up the tab. Medicaid can help if a doctor certifies that the tub is medically necessary, but rules change by state. Call your plan early, ask which forms you need, and keep any prescriptions or letters on file to improve your odds of reimbursement.

A walk-in bathtub’s fill and drain times hinge on your home’s water pressure and the tub’s hardware. Most models with a fast-fill faucet need about six to eight minutes to fill and two to three minutes to drain; larger basins or standard drains can tack on an extra 10 minutes. Stay seated until the water is completely gone so you don’t swing the door open on a full tub’s worth of water.

A walk-in bathtub holds 50 gallons of water, and its design supports capacities that range from 40 to 80 gallons, depending on the product. In contrast, a standard bathtub holds 25 to 45 gallons. This capacity is determined by the fixed design of the tub and its construction materials. Homeowners should review the detailed product specifications to confirm the exact volume available for use during bath time.

Walk-in tubs are tax-deductible when the purchase qualifies as a necessary medical expense and meets the IRS criteria. Caregivers who install a walk-in tub also qualify for the Dependent Care Tax Credit under specific conditions. Homeowners must verify these requirements with the IRS and consult a tax professional, as state and program guidelines enforce strict documentation standards for such deductions.
