" Best Contractor Experience Ever
If there was a rating higher than an A+ I would give it. Cornelio and his team simply exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. I selected CRG as a possible contractor because I liked the photos I saw of their work, and the reviews of Cornelio himself were almost universally positive. I did talk to some larger contractors as well and got the sense that if I wasn't spending $15-20K on the job, they weren't really interested. One contractor spent about 3 minutes looking at my project, telling me, "no problem, this is standard and we do this all the time." We missed meeting with another contractor (our fault, not his) but we provided photographs on his request and he provided us a price accordingly. It ended up being the highest of the three.
We first contacted Cornelio via email, and we later exchanged phone numbers and spoke the next day. We set a time for him to come out and look at my project. On the appointed day, he arrived on time. He was very polite and listened to all of our ideas. He also gave us some suggestions and pointed out a couple of things we had not thought of - all in all, I think the initial visit was around 40 minutes. He said the project would take two weeks, his contract was fixed price, and it was roughly 20% less than the other two contractors I evaluated. I awarded him the business.
It Begins
On day 1 of the project, he arrived on time with two of his crew, who promptly set up drop cloths all through the house to minimize dirt and disruption. Cornelio would come in every couple of days to inspect, get supplies for the crew, and answer any questions I had along the way, but the two man crew performed the bulk of the work.
The guys were extremely nice and, frankly, worked their butts off. There was no idle time except for lunch breaks. Each night they finished they would gather the drop cloths, vacuum everything and leave, basically, zero presence except for the work itself and any materials. They didn't leave tools or anything, and always hauled away debris. These guys could give Good Housekeeping lessons in being neat. This was especially nice since one of us works from home full time and the other part-time.  They were also very patient with our extremely curious and attention-getting cat, who we managed to keep out of their way as much as possible.
We were supplying all the finishing materials - tile, fixtures, etc - Cornelio supplied the building materials. We made a couple of mistakes on our purchases (we bought some of the wrong things, like the wrong shower rough valve and we learned that faucets and sinks are not universally compatible) which slowed things down. When that happened, his crew worked longer hours to ensure they stayed on schedule, including coming in one Saturday to catch up - again, this was our fault, not theirs, but they took it in stride and adapted. They were also very accommodating when we decided to go ahead and supply a new toilet vs. re-installing the old one and readily accepted small changes along the way.
The tile we selected for both the shower, shower floor and bathroom floor was difficult to work with, and required some very precise cutting in some small spaces. The crew's attention to detail was outstanding and they took great pride in doing a beautiful job. I think they were as impressed as we were.
Toward the end of the project, Cornelio also took pains to fix the bathroom door, which was sagging slightly, and put in a few finishing touches that I hadn't asked for that really dressed the whole thing up. He takes great pride in his work and it shows. He performed the final pieces of installation and finishing personally.
CRG did refer me to a third-party supplier for the glass shower door - it's a specialized product, apparently. The company he referred me to was also extremely professional, punctual and diligent about making sure questions were answered.
We are thrilled with the results. I have three other projects to do over the next year and I will hire CRG for all of them. I cannot think of any reasonable complaint, nor can I see any reason not to hire CRG in the future.
His company is not nearly as big as some of the other leading reviews, but he gave us a great deal of personal attention, was very patient with our questions, and did the best job possible to do. It is so rare to find such high quality and value in the same place, performed by some of the nicest (and talented) folks we've ever met.
Hire CRG. They're fantastic!

Our new kitchen included new flooring, which extended into joining laundry room (we chose porcelain tile),  level 1 granite counter top, tile backsplash, paint, new cabinets, and electrical work (we replaced a big light with 4 recessed lights, and moved the location of our appliances.)

New half bathroom included new vanity, granite counter top, flooring (which extended into the entry way), paint, and they installed a new toilet, mirror and light fixture which we purchased separately.

Ocean's estimate was the best we received. (One contractor gave an estimate for just refacing cabinets which was almost as much as Ocean's for brand new ones.) They also had great reviews on Angie's List so we decided to go with them. We worked with Sean. He was very responsive and easy to communicate with.

Our installers were a team of 3 that worked very efficiently and cleaned up after each work day.

There were a few hiccups along the way, but I think that can be expected when doing such a major job. Both Sean, and the installers made sure that we were happy in the end.

We would definitely use them again. The price was great, as was the quality of work and professionalism.

We are very happy with our kitchen and bathroom.

"Overall, the experience was okay.
Designer missed first appointment at my house (that we had scheduled over the phone), which was disappointing because I had taken off of work for that specific purpose. Called to find out where he was and said he said he didn't have the appointment in his calendar. Was accommodating in rescheduling appointment on a Saturday. Showed up, took measurements, and we discussed the layout of my kitchen, which to be fair, is very complicated given radiators, windows, doors, etc.. Design had good ideas and provided a starting point for me, but just didn't feel right.
After getting the quote for the renovation ($38,890), which I had to follow up to request that it be itemized, I determined that the prices were high. For instance, quote for install/sanding of hardwoods in kitchen/living room was more than double what I had it done for with a highly-rated Angie's list flooring provider. Cabinets were $19,510, and i felt like the kitchen was designed to sell the cabinets, which given that I had been clear up front about my firm budget of $30k, design could have been scaled down to minimize cabinetry and associated expenses. Other items in the scope of work were lumped together and not adequate broken down, so I could not see what the estimate per each individual labor item was.
Dwain, the owner, was responsive and did seem eager to do business with me. However, the pricing for the complete kitchen remodel was out of my range and the design just didn't click, so I ended up not going with them.

"Great! He arrived on time, with the right amount of crew, tools and positive attitude! He was very experienced with Ikea cabinets and knew when we had purchased the wrong items. He also knew when to send me back to Ikea for different parts. Ikea made alot of mistakes and he knew that was common. He wrote down the numbers of the items i needed which was extremely helpful. He and his crew were fantastic and i would hire him again in the future. His prices were very reasonable and i appreciated that. I had two glass doors that were on back order so he said i could hold back $200 from his pay until they czme in. I called him on Sunday and told him i just picked them up. He told me they would be there on Monday morning to finish the job. Of course he arrived on time and he finished the job quickly. Of the 4 companies i hired to do various things in my kitchen his was the only one i didnt have issues with. I asked him to install the lights inside and underneath the cabinets and install the microwave. The lights were difficult but he worked hard until they were done. They make the whole kitchen shine! He was extremely reasonable with the microwave installation price. I asked him for several cards and already passed them out to people that wanted a new kitchen i told them he is the best installer i ever hired. He made this overwhelming project so much easier."

"Juan and Flavio provided excellent service and were extremely responsive. The install team led by Flavio were punctual, professional, and skilled. The new floors look great! They also buffed and resealed an existing hardwood floor. I am extremely pleased with the results. Their prices are reasonable. I would highly recommend them!"

"Very well. Robert explained the work they would do and he coordinated tile, plumbing and countertop replacement. We had an early 80's kitchen that needed help but we didn't want a major renovation. They updated our cabinets with new, larger doors, painted the frames, added soft-close hinges, and constructed a new cabinet to replace a built-in desk. New backsplash, granite countertops, and hardware. Their work was a superb value and we're pleased with our new "bright" kitchen!"

FAQs for baseboard installation projects in Avenue, MD

Installing crown molding can be challenging, depending on the material and your skill level. Lightweight materials like polystyrene and softwoods are easier for homeowners to install themselves, offering a cost-saving option. However, heavier materials like hardwoods and plaster are difficult to work with and require professional installation to achieve a high-quality result. Precision is crucial in measuring, cutting, and fitting crown molding, so hiring a professional ensures the best outcome.

Crown molding is available at various price points, ranging from $1 to $30 per linear foot, depending on the material. This wide range offers options for every budget. Affordable materials like MDF, PVC, and polystyrene provide cost-effective solutions, while premium materials like exotic hardwoods or metal offer a luxurious appearance at a higher cost. Regardless of your budget, you can find crown molding that enhances your home's aesthetic.

Crown molding is installed by professional finish carpenters or painters who specialize in detailed trim work. These experts possess the necessary skills and tools to ensure precise measurements, accurate cuts, and seamless installation. By hiring a professional, you can achieve a flawless finish that enhances your home's aesthetic appeal without the risk of common DIY mistakes.

Crown molding can be installed in various areas of your house to add elegance and architectural interest. It is commonly used where walls meet the ceiling, but you can also place crown molding around doors, windows, mirrors, and atop cabinets. Installing crown molding in these locations enhances visual appeal, creates a cohesive design, and adds a touch of sophistication to your home's interior.

To determine how much crown molding to purchase, start by measuring the length of each wall where you plan to install crown molding and add the measurements together to determine the total linear feet required. Purchase an extra 10% of material to account for waste from cutting angles and to ensure seamless joints by using full-length pieces when possible. Including additional material helps avoid shortages and ensures a smooth installation process.

For a professional crown molding installer, this task takes about 1 to 3 hours per room, depending on size and complexity. Factors like the material, design intricacy, and number of corners can affect the time. If you're doing it yourself, expect it to take longer as you get the hang of measuring and cutting precise angles. Advanced measuring and planning or hiring a pro can help the project go smoothly.
