"We bought the split level house with an unfinished lower level and slowly have been finishing off the area over the course of a few years. The space totaled around 1000 sqft with the addition of 2 bedrooms (with closets), long hall, and large L shaped family room with stairs going up to the foyer area (with closets). We wanted the space to look as professional and as nice as the upstairs so we took our time and wanted things done right. The time came for carpet and having no idea where to go we went to some larger retail stores and a few of the bigger shops in the area. We found a carpet we liked (Mohawk silk strand serenity, memory foam pad) and even had a number of estimates performed. I probably jumped the gun a bit on estimates as they were performed about one month before I actually needed the carpet. The good news is that it gave me time to really think about the decision. <br /> We ended up going with Cascade for a number of reasons and I would encourage you to do the same: <br /> 1) It is a local, family owned shop that relies on reputation for business and future business. The retail stores will call you a lot to get your money (almost daily until you tell them no), but then hire some guy to install that is getting paid a fraction of the install cost. People tend to do better work if they are earning more for the work they are doing and that doesn't always mean you pay more. <br /> 2) The total price was comparable to the larger retail and actually less than the larger shops for the same if not better quality carpet <br /> 3) They respected that I needed extra time to finish what  I needed to and cared that I was getting what I wanted. Cascade really wanted me to be happy with the results <br /> 4) The money I spent goes back into supporting the community I live in <br /> 5) Small town service, with extremely polite and professional communication <br /> The results: <br /> Fantastic! I couldn't be happier with the work that was performed and the professionalism of Dave and his family. Really quality workmanship and I will be using again for future projects! <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Outstanding quality and workmanship! <br /> This surpassed our expectations on our new shower.  Work was completed in a timely manner as promised. <br /> Brad was excellent on helping and guiding us on how to go about getting our old built-in tub removed, and designing a custom handicap accessible walk-in shower.  Very ,very knowledgeable on all aspects of bath installs above and beyond just tile and flooring.  He answered all our questions and e-mails promptly, and always kept us up to date as to the progress in conjunction working with the contractor and plumber.  <br /> Highly recommended!  <br />"

"Happy they were able to fit me into their schedule relatively quickly. They explained everything, were on time, cleaned-up afterward. I was not able to do comparison pricing. I was not sure how long my malfunctioning pump would continue to work. I selected them based on good reviews. I may have been able to save some money with someone else, but I do not feel like the price was too high. You get what you pay for. I’m very happy with what they did."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Balsam Lake, WI

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
