"I recently chose Harford Custom Homes to renovate the master bathroom in my 1900s home. With the complexity of the age of the home, I believed the dreams I had would be unachievable. Joe and Kyle made it happen! Not only do they have incredible attention to detail, bringing my dreams to a reality, they are always available. If I had a question or concern regarding any step of my project, they were a call or text away. If I felt like something wasnâ t exactly the way I dreamed, they fixed it - no questions asked. They additionally worked timely to get my project done in just a few weeks! I cannot express how pleased I am with Harford Custom Homes and would recommend them to anyone looking to get a custom job done. No matter how big or small, old or new. Thank you Joe and Kyle!"

"After having a problem with a "reputable" contracting company, TAP Construction came through and began our addition. Todd was very professional, as well as his staff/contractors-a welcome change. Immediately, we saw a difference in workmanship and ethics. We would recommend Todd for any project and would use again if needed."

Customers say: Quality work

"We write this review as a sigh of relief now that our renovation project with River View is finally complete. The quality of the final work is excellent, and the construction crew, architect, and county inspector were all great to work with. The original crew we worked with, led by Edwin, were so hardworking, friendly, thorough, and fast. That's what really pushed us from 2 to 3 stars. However, the process getting here was frustrating and unnecessarily chaotic. Timeline & Communication Issues: Initial promise: We were clear that the renovation had to allow us to live in our home during construction and be completed before Christmas. Early communication: Our original project manager, Cris, was personable, and early communication seemed fine, if a bit informal and sometimes inappropriately personal. Major miscommunication: Near the holidays, we discovered that the plans submitted included cutting into the roof — something we explicitly said we didn’t want. This contradicted verbal assurances and caused major last-minute changes. Project Management Failures: Poor planning and oversight: Cris and the architect’s plan didn’t align with the construction work. We had to get involved directly with the county to fix errors. Paperwork errors: Incorrect submissions to the county added delays and confusion, which we had to monitor ourselves. Last-minute scramble: We were cleaning up dust on Christmas Eve due to these planning failures. Personnel Turnover & Lack of Handoff: Cris leaves the company: No proper handover to James, the new PM, who was unfamiliar with our project. Crew replaced: The original crew, who were great, were gone; new crew had no context or direction. James leaves: Another handoff with no context — the third PM had no idea about our project or its outstanding items. Escalation mishandled: When we raised our concerns with Kyle, the CEO, the response felt dismissive, with no accountability for the previous missteps. In summary, it's a beautiful end result... but we’re glad it’s over. The process left us frustrated, confused, and frankly, exhausted."

"I have used them for three projects and would only use them as they are craftsmen in every sense of the word. They treat every project as if they were doing it for their own homes. Not many people take the time, as they do, to get it perfect. If you looking for a rushed job that "will do" this is not the company. They do it right using the old adage measure twice cut once. They communicate with the customer every step of the way and won't be happy until you are happy."

"AES Builder & Home Improvements Inc. was absolutely amazing to work with from start to finish! They remodeled our original kitchen, and the results are beyond beautiful. From our very first meeting to the day we spent picking out custom design materials, the entire process was organized, collaborative, and enjoyable. Their coordination and communication throughout the renovation were top-notch! Every contractor who came into our home was professional, respectful, and genuinely cared about their work. They answered all of our questions and kept us informed every step of the way, even when there were small delays. The quality of the craftsmanship truly shows, and our new custom kitchen makes me smile every single time I walk in to cook. We couldn?t be happier with how everything turned out. If you?re considering a remodel, I can?t recommend AES Builder & Home Improvements enough! Thank you to Stephen, Shawna and the entire AES team!"

"I called and spoke with a gentleman named Elmer to discuss some minor repairs I needed in my home, including fixing my kitchen countertop, repairing the dishwasher, and installing hardwired, interconnected smoke detectors. Within two days, we met at the house, and he provided a fairly priced quote just a few hours after the visit. The work was scheduled within three days and completed to my full satisfaction. Everything was handled professionally and efficiently. I fully intend to reach out to Mr. Elmer Perdomo for any future needs that may arise. I would highly recommend Mr. Perdomo with JC Remodeling to anyone in need of remodeling or construction services. Best, Andrew Kucharek "

FAQs for addition to existing structure building service projects in Bel Air, MD

You can typically raise your roof by four to eight feet, depending on your home's structure and roof design. The exact amount depends on factors like roof slope and framing support. Raising the roof creates additional interior space, enhances natural light, and increases your home's value. Consult a professional to determine the feasible height increase for your home.

Yes, you need a building permit to raise your roof. Obtaining a building permit ensures your project complies with local building codes and safety regulations. A professional contractor can assist with the permit and inspection process and ensure all legal and safety requirements are met. Your contractor will be familiar with building codes in your area, which can differ between cities or states.

While it's possible to raise a flat roof, it requires extensive structural modifications. Flat roofs lack the attic space and support structures of pitched roofs, so raising them involves significant engineering to ensure safety and durability. This process can be complex and costly, so professional assessment is essential before undertaking a project of this magnitude.
