"My certified inspector MatthewCote out of the Belgrade, MT office found i have a natural spring comming up in my crawlspace. I knew I had water streaming all over crawlspace and my husband believed it was due to watering lawn of the hill our house sits on. Matt was great to work with, he was totally professional. He explained my situation and showed me in photos and map of my basement what this ssprincause, how it had eroded and damage caused. It has been going on for quite a few years, of which I noticed escalation of water even though I decreased watering on above lawn. I wish I had researched this sooner. But MATT assured me it's not too late. He was clear and concise as to what I needed done to resolve and eliminate further damage by installing 2 sump pumps, installing trenches & piping to drain all areas of water, draining ouside of house past septic and leach field, add a humidifier and encapsulation of crawlspace. I highly recommend Groundworks and Matt to anyone."

"Beautifully! We kept finding more projects. Both these gentlemen worked seamlessly with us. The quality, fine detail and creative solutions were perfectly implemented. No amount of work was too much, even the dirtiest and ugliness! They have a gentle relaxed aura, yet professional and hard working. Love them. Recommend highly 100%."

"They were recommended by Sears to remove an old Jenn Air stove and <br /> replace it with a new Jenn Air stove. We have an old house and there is <br /> no way to install an overhead fan/vent for a stove, and the old stove <br /> was installed in the early 1970s. So we had no other replacement <br /> choices. In short, due to a wide variety of problems related to the <br /> prior installation being done wrong, differing counter top heights on <br /> either side of the new drop-in stove (old one was free standing), <br /> sloping floor, and new stove design affecting installation, there were <br /> multiple problems. It took far longer than anticipated to get the new <br /> stove in place; and , in spite of many efforts (they have installed <br /> several hundred stoves for Sears) it just wasn't right. They agreed to <br /> return to make some changes to get it right. We ordered another part <br /> and they returned to install if and came up with a solution to improve <br /> the installation which meant a customized solution - and they developed a customized solution, came back <br /> and reinstalled the stove. And it looks great. <br />"

"This project was a barn remodel adding a 31' X 18' horse shelter, Double doors to the front of the barn, and two sliding doors to two open bays on the side of the barn. OSB was applied to the roof with metal roofing on top. Rod is an exceptional builder with many years of experience. <br /> He is a perfectionist who takes pride in his work. He is able to work <br /> from blueprints or a rough sketch depending on what you want or need. <br /> This was not my first experience with Rod's work as five years ago he <br /> constructed a 40' X 60' pole barn on another property of mine. The <br /> building also had a 16' X 60' lean to on one side. <br /> Rod is the best, most honest, and most reliable builder I have ever encountered bar none. <br />"

"Everything was completed in a timely manner with little inconvenience.  They were alert, courteous and knowledgeable of their profession.  They can work with little supervision and were able to follow all our instructions as to the design of the kitchen grand room.  They offer reasonable price and I am extremely pleased with the outcome."

"I am so pleased with   the quality of work, the time frame, and the professionalism of all the subcontractors.  I hired this company when I began mold remediation more than a year ago.  The bulk of work has mitigated the mold and the source.  This is the third time I have hired this company.  I am not sure they are the cheapest, but to have no doubts with the results is comforting. <br />  I have had so many bad experiences trying to find quality work, the use of quality materials, and professionalism in this area.  Many "professionals" are not aware of proper installation procedures or standards.  I find the lack of proper licensing, bonding, integrity and inspection in this state pathetic."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Big Timber, MT

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
