"We are delighted with the hardwood floor installed by Sullivan & Son – they truly treat your home as they would their own! My wife and I had been looking to replace the carpet that came with our new home and decided to start with the master bedroom. After finding Sullivan & Son Carpet on Angie's list, we paid their showroom a visit. Our first contact was with Ryan and, throughout the process, Ryan and others at the Sullivan & Son showroom were very patient and accommodating while we considered all the various flooring options – never pressuring us one way or another but always giving us wonderful explanations of the pros and cons and fully disclosing the costs so we could make the best decision for our budget. Over a period of several months, given the quality of product available and the trust we had gained in Sullivan and Son, we finally decided to go with what had been my wife’s real preference all along in the matter – a beautiful gray hardwood floor from the FX Appalachian line installed at a 45-degree angle! Ryan came to our home multiple times – the initial measurement, to deliver the wood and, finally, on the day of installation to ensure things were going according to plan. The installers worked conscientiously and swiftly doing a wonderful job and getting our floor installed in a single day. But that wasn’t all. Sullivan & Son went the extra mile. Brad Sullivan came by our home that evening to ensure we were happy with the installation, returning to spend the better part of the next day putting in finishing touches. We couldn’t have been happier. My wife is very fussy about these things and Ryan and Brad could not have been more responsive, thoughtful and patient – arranging for samples to be sent to us and even allowing us to take samples home from the showroom so we could see them in different lighting. From the start, Sullivan & Son was extremely professional and accommodating. We still have carpet in our loft that is immediately outside our bedroom – so the next item on the flooring agenda will be to replace that carpet – with one of the selections from Sullivan & Son!"

"Wonderful! They were very responsive and scheduled us just a few days after we contacted them. Arrived on time (early in fact!) and were very friendly and professional. Our tenant left quite a few stains on the new carpet, which we were concerned would hurt our ability to sell. Carpet Doctor did a beautiful job and we are hopeful that it will help us to sell now. Highly recommended!"

"John Balayan, the owner of Arakelian Rugs, is truly amazing! We called Arakelian Rugs after a disastrous spill on our oriental rug that resulted in red splatters in a large section of the rug. John not only immediately contacted us, he also came right out to see if it would even be possible to repair the damage. We are truly amazed that the team at Arakelian was able to restore our rug - we cannot even see any remnants of the stain! John gave us a timeframe for each step of the process and kept in touch with us throughout. We then had several other rugs cleaned at very reasonable prices. The rugs were picked up, delivered, and placed. We also purchased new padding which makes such a difference. We are truly grateful to the entire team at Arakelian Rugs for such professional and outstanding service."

"Chris provided the services of carpet cleaning and his contracted carpet stretching at our home. He doesn’t provide an estimate in person for the cleaning, but offers a rate per square footage. His final price matched our calculations based on the measurements of the rooms. The carpet stretcher did come prior to estimate the carpet stretching. The quality of work was excellent and professional, both for the carpet cleaning and his associated carpet stretchers. We thought the pricing was fair and reasonable compared to another estimate we received. We will plan to use this service again. We prefer to use owner operators and hiring Chris was a good decision for us."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Hartford, CT

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
