Do not use!, Georgia flooring and remodeling, Owned by Mr. Travis. Georgia flooring and remodeling is the opposite, shows up when they feel like it, uses underage teenage labor, uses ridiculous excuses, completely unsatisfactory,Damaged my floor Travis admitted to me that he does not know how to put down a professional finish, WTF"

"My husband and I hired Charles Smith from Smith Restorations & Repair to get some work done (inside and out) over 3 months from Feb - April of 2018. In total, Smith Restorations handled repairs to our tree house, built a new deck, which included some stone patio work, installed floors for our entire first floor, updated our 1/2 bath and remodeled my kitchen. HE DID ALL OF THIS IN TWO MONTHS. And it all looks fantastic! We just moved into our new home in August and spent some time thinking about what we wanted and Charles Smith was the perfect person to put our plan in place. Let me share why we hired Smith Restorations and why we continued to hire them. 1) Smith listens to what you want and gives you what you need, making every attempt to combine the two. I am not a contractor and Charles had much better ideas than I did for how to rearrange the kitchen. We went from thinking we had to move electrical panels and walls to a much simpler design which he believed would achieve the same end. It did. His ideas saved us tons of money. 2) He was the only person who came out and gave a care about our tree house. It was dangerous, needed to be dealt with and two other contractors came and stuck up their noses. 3) We were given options, some of which included sketches. There is more than one way to do things and he knows more than one way. Great good, better, best scenarios. 4) Smith allowed us to use our resources when we had them (I had a good electrician friend) and he did not look to mark-up workers that he brought in to drive up the price. 5) Smith cleans up and hauls away mess. Every day. Enough said. 6) Cost effective. Straightforward in materials and labor costs. 7) Smith Restorations went above and beyond for us and we just kept coming up with projects. We have many more to save up and budget for. We had a great experience. We would highly recommend Smith Restorations and repair for small or large jobs."

"I reached out to Georgia Flooring and Remodeling, along with a few other flooring contractors, to get estimates for finishing a tile job that my husband had started. I should start by saying that Mr. Perdue seems like a good person and was willing to work with us on getting our flooring job completed. Things started out pretty well, as Travis responded quickly to my inquiry about having the tile work done, and he had his son come out within a couple of days to take measurements and give us an estimate. Once we agreed on a price, work started within the next couple of days. I got a bit nervous on the first day because the work was started later than agreed upon, and the 3 guys (2 of Mr. Perdues sons and a friend) that came to do the work were all pretty young. The job started off fine, and the three of them made some pretty good progress the first day and a half of the job. After this things started to take a turn; the last half of the job was rushed and subpar. There was an area in our concrete slab that was slightly lower than the rest of the floor, and we were aware of this prior to hiring GA Flooring to do this tile job. We were charged for the materials and labor it would cost to level off the area with a leveling compound, which I assumed would be done prior to the tile being laid. This work was not done and, when looking from one room into the other, there is an obvious discrepancy in the tile where the floor is still unlevel. We were also charged for thresholds to be placed in three doorways; that was also left unfinished. 4 tiles in our living room had to be replaced within two days of being laid because they were already popping up. To his credit, Mr. Perdue did send his son back out to replace the tiles. He was supposed to come back the next day to redo the grout for those tiles, but never showed up or called. We did not hear anything from anyone for two weeks, so I finally reached out to Travis. I understand things happen, and when I reached out, Travis was very apologetic and promised to get his son out the next day to finally finish the grout. So I was willing to overlook this; I was just ready to get the work done so that we could get the floors sealed properly. Well, unfortunately, 5 days later, the work had still not been done, and we also hand not heard anything from anyone. I finally reached AGAIN to let Travis know that my husband would be finishing the job. He was extremely apologetic, but by this point, my husband and I were both disappointed. Now, less than 2 months after having the tile work *done*, there are 2 additional loose tiles and chipped grout near our fireplace This was definitely a disappointing experience, and I would not recommend this company."

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in Macon, GA

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
