"We have worked with other carpet stores over the years and are fortunate to
have found Carpet Carousel on Angie’s List. We needed to recarpet the upstairs
study which is reached through a “floating” spiral staircase. Both the study
and the treads of the staircase had to use the same material.

We first had a store we were familiar with take a look. They initially
weren’t sure how they would carpet the treads of the spiral staircase or how
they would move the furniture to carpet the study. I then found Carpet Carousel
on Angie’s List and Shawn came over. He immediately figured how to carpet the
treads and move the furniture. We then visited their show room where Shawn
showed us a number of samples that could work. We took a few with us and made a
decision. In the meantime, we got a quote from the other carpet store and
nearly fell over – it was just about twice the price of Carpet Carousel.

The installation was excellent. The two men doing the job were punctual
and knew exactly what to do. After the job was done, the area was vacuumed and
the furniture replaced. I highly recommend Carpet Carousel and only wish I had
known about them years ago.

"Nicky gave us a sale price on our carpet even though the sale hadn't started yet. He also gave us some good advice and we ended up going with a Berber carpet for our busy living room that's been exactly the right choice for us. The crew who showed up to install the carpet was on time, quick, and professional.
I called Nicky again the day before a big snowstorm. Someone had suggested carpet tubes as a way to keep a toddler busy, and Nicky wasn't at all fazed when I asked if I could have one. He sent over two tubes and even threw in some carpet squares (one of which is 3' x 8' and perfect for my hallway). My son was thrilled to roll his balls and trains down the carpet tubes, and I was thrilled that it kept him entertained when we were snowed in.

"I left a message, and Mike Tran quickly called me back.  His workload was about 1 week out, which worked for me.  He came over the next day to review the interior and provide a quote.  He emailed me the quote which ended up matching up to the final invoice.  The work took about a week, and the result was great.  The floor installation was tightly done, and the white oak used looks beautiful.  The refinishing and the installation left no dust.  I'm very happy, and would recommend using Universal Hardwood.

"AMAZING!!! I picked out carpet through photos sent to my phone. I provided the measurements I had and (thankfully!) they were accurate. The 2 installers showed up right on time, clean, neat, professional and respectful. They barely spoke while they were there - in other words, they weren't "yukking it up," they were working. They moved my furniture, removed the 2 different floors that were there, they installed everything beautifully (I saw them using a little tool to tuck stuff in... I don't think Empire Carpet would do such a thing!) cleaned up after themselves. They were out before 6 hours with my EXTREME gratitude!! A truly amazing and stress-free experience. What a team!!"

"The sales experience was very good--they were informed and suggested options that were suitable for my needs. The reason I did not give them an "A" was that the quality of the installation was not as good as I expected. The installer (I believe) is an independent contractor. He did a good job of explaining the options for how the carpet could be installed, but he was sloppy on fitting the carpet to the lower steps which are slightly curved. I pointed this out and asked him to improve the fit, which he did--sort of--but now that corner of the installation has come loose and I will have to staple or tack it into place myself. My advice--check the installation very carefully."

"We were happy with our experience from start to finish. Susie in the showroom was very pleasant and helpful. She encouraged us to take carpet samples home. This helped a great deal with our making a choice we are happy with.
Steve, who came to our home to measure for installation, was also pleasant and professional. He did an excellent and accurate job.
Phil, who came to install the carpeting, was very pleasant, professional and exacting with the installation. He took great care with measuring so everything is perfect.
Our carpeting looks beautiful and we have already had many compliments.
All in all, we are very happy with our experience with Rug Merchant. We would happily recommend them.

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Boston, MA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
