"The salesperson, Mark (?), was great. Very thoughtful and generally a really nice guy. I was looking to recarpet two bedrooms - didn't want to spend a ton and didn't want anything super plush. He steered me towards some good possibilities. Shopping for carpeting can be very overwhelming. Once he came out to the house to measure, it became clear that some options would create a clearance problem with closet and bedroom doors. I am glad he noticed that because otherwise, I'd have had to have the doors removed and cut -- costing me more. The installers were prompt, polite and thorough. And very quick. Remarkably so. The only negative comment I can make is that the pad installed is not as cushion-y as I had hoped. Because of the concern about door clearance, a very thin pad was recommended. As it turns out, I could have gone with something a bit thicker, which would have been a lot better. Even the installer was surprised by the choice but at that point it was too late. <br />"

"I was shopping around for carpet and ended up going to Sam's after a contractor recommended them to me.  I went down to their showroom and found the exact carpet that I wanted.  I had found the same carpet at 2 bigger carpet stores but Sam's had it at 1/2 the price.  The carpet was installed in our home a few days later and it looks great.  I'm happy with the carpet and the installation.  "

"I'm very pleased with his work. The room looks great...you can't tell that the carpet had been pulled up, and the wires are very unobtrusive. I would definitely use Randy's services again, and highly recommend him."

"While the people at the Abbey store were nice and very helpful, I can't recommend the company for anything other than simple jobs with easy to install carpet. I ordered an expensive Fabrica carpet that had an embedded floral pattern implemented as a raised regions with a slightly darker color. This makes for a challenging seaming job requiring an accurate pattern match and perfect edges. The team installed the carpet and complained about how the end of the roll had been damaged during shipping ( after they had finished the install of course ). This left a seam across the entire master bedroom 4 ft from the wall. The seam varied from perfect in the closet area to mediocre on one side of the room and terrible in the most visible area when walking into the room. The installers gave me 3 "excuses" for this 1) damaged carpet, 2) estimator should have specified a longer roll so there would be no seam, 3) Over time I would stop noticing it so it was fine.  Also during the install they damaged paint on the doorway to the closets by dragging the rough backing against the molding ( trivial to fix of course ). More troubling was the custom curved molding under the bath room vanity seating area surface. They broke it in half by running into it during the install. The owner came out a couple of weeks later and agreed the seam was unacceptable and we scheduled a repair visit about 3 weeks out, and he indicated they would bring out a replacement board.  We disassembled the bedroom again and the same 2 installers showed up to fix things. The board they brought would never have worked ( unable to be formed to the curvature ). The asked me if I had received the replacement carpet piece for the fix, I said I assumed they would be bringing it. Calls to the owner were to no avail as he as on a flight somewhere. Instead of doing the right thing they just pulled up the carpet in the worst area and shaved 1/8" worth from the damaged side and stitched it back together. When they had finished and showed me the result, it was better than before but still inferior to the perfect seam in the closet. They also failed to fix the mediocre area commenting that they were only told to fix the worst spot. While I'm willing to give someone a chance to fix things, they only get one chance especially when the visits are so disruptive. The broken board remains unfixed and I've engaged someone with a wood shop to custom fabricate the piece. As you can imagine, I regret my choice of Abbey Carpets and perhaps reading this review will save you the same fate.  <br />"

"They were a little bit more expensive, but they made up for it in terms of service and range of products that they had available for us to choose from. So they had a wide variety. Their knowledge of the wide variety of products that they had available really stood out to us. We just felt that we were getting a knowledgeable experience. So that was good because we didn't know much about the different types of flooring. The people were knowledgeable and helpful. They were willing to work with us in terms of what we truly needed."

"We have purchased other rugs at California Carpet and always liked the choice and service.  We went back again for our re-carpeting needs upstairs.  DJ at the San Carlos store assisted us in finding the carpet to suit our needs.  He showed up a wide variety of carpets from many price points.  We wanted a good, durable, soft and long lasting carpet.  He would have been more than happy to show and sell us carpet from their "roll room" right up to the designer section.  We didn't feel like we were steered to any particular style.  He listened to our desires and needs and explained the benefits of the various brands.  We settled on a Karastan Smartstrand cut pile.  It was dense, stain resistant and very soft feeling (which is what I really wanted).  It just felt so good to my hand and feet.  I love it!  It was quite a bit more than a similar carpet (about $15 to $20/yrd) but I can really feel the difference between the two.  To me, worth the extra expense.  They worked with us in finding a price that we were happy with and so were they.  It's a big expense and will last a long time, we felt it was worth getting a product that was exactly what we wanted and it really isn't that much more for the quality improvement.  Time will tell.   <br /> <br /> The installation was handled by their "in-house" installers.  Installation makes the difference.  The carpeting we replaced had seams showing all over the place.  When we purchased the house 8yrs ago the seams were already there and the carpet was only 4yrs old.  Again, time will tell, but this is a different type of carpet and seams shouldn't be an issue.  The installation crew actually installed with less seams than the old carpet, which is good.  They sent a three man crew and they installed in one day.  Two bedrooms, loft, three walk in closets, hallway and stairs.  Also, had to shuffle furniture between two rooms.  They showed up before the window given to me and were finished right before 6pm.  Transitions to the bathroom tile and to the third bedroom (carpet not changed) look great.  They were professional and friendly.  I saw that one stair got pulled up and redone when it was not to his liking.  They cleaned up when finished and were on their way.  Everything seems well installed to me and I have been assured that any problem that might come up in the future will be handled by California Carpet.  I don't have any reason to believe it will not.   <br /> <br /> I would definitely recommend California Carpet to anyone looking to purchase carpet."

"The contractor called in a day before to confirm the appointment. They arrived on time and were done in an hour or so. The carpets in all rooms look visibly clean! One thing to note - they didn't clean any of the corners where the wall meets the floor saying their equipment cannot go there which I found little odd."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Boulder Creek, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
