"Home guard was extremely easy to work with, on time and reliable. They got the job done on encapsulating basement asbestos piping expediently and at a very high level. Would highly recommend using them and would use them again. "

"We hired Iris to collect and test samples from pipe wrappings in our recently purchased home for asbestos. The tech that came out was polite, thorough, and communicative. The people I spoke with to schedule the appointment and pay the invoice were incredibly polite and prompt to reply, and the final report that they provided was incredibly detailed and easy to understand. Definitely recommend this service if you are testing for asbestos in your home."

"I picked this company based on the reviews on Angie's List and also on the fact that they do Sunday inspections.  The company was very professional from the outset and the woman I spoke to on the phone was very friendly.  They emailed me confirmation of our appointment and items included in the service.  I called a couple days later to add a few water tests.  George arrived on time and did a very thorough job - four hours.  He was kind and informative, and I felt immediate relief after the first 5 minutes of our encounter with him.  I could tell that he knew exactly what he was doing.  The inspection lasted from 10 am to 2:30 pm or so and I received the report by email by noon the next day.  Radon air test report was emailed to me prior to the inspection.  Water test results were emailed to me the day after the inspection.  I appreciated that the company arranged to perform these tests in advance of the inspection as the results take several days to return, and I had a tight window until contract.  I would highly recommend this company. <br />"

"Very Happy with work they did. Scheduling was easy- they came one week out. Gentleman who showed up explained service. Whole job took about 3+ hours. Once done I got a quick synopsis of the finding (no LEAD!!!!) and was told report would be available within a week (got there quicker). <br /> Considering how difficult it was to find someone to do the Xray test and not just charge hundreds of $$ to use the stick sold at Home Depot I was very happy with the work Lew Corp provided. The peace of mind I now have is priceless. <br />"

"We had Steamatic come out for a mold estimate.  The scheduling of work however was not favorable for us as it was two weeks out, however they were professional and provided an estimate of what the repairs would cost.  I am unsure if they knew exactly where the problem started with water leaking. <br />"

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Brookfield, CT

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
