"Javier called ahead of time to confirm that he was on his way, and when he arrived, he introduced himself and described what he would do. Then, he pulled out his ladder and climbed onto the roof. He came down to retrieve supplies he needed to apply some fresh tar and mastic where needed. He noticed that a piece of plastic molding was missing over the porch (against the house behind the tile shingles). He did not have one on his truck, so he explained that he had one at his shop and would be back momentarily. He returned within 15 minutes with the molding, installed it, and then reviewed the work he did. He showed before-and-after photos from our roof of the places where he replenished the tar and mastic. The before-photos were very similar to the ones taken a month or so earlier by the home inspector when we were in the process of purchasing the house, so even though I was not on the roof to see what he saw, I feel confident that he found and addressed the needed preventive maintenance. The home inspector had not noticed the missing molding, but Javier did--and he replaced it. We are new to tile roofs, so I appreciate the time and attention that Javier took to make sure that this one is in good shape.

When I contacted another Angie's List recommended appliance repair company, the gentleman stated I should first pull the dryer away from the wall, remove the duct, and check to see if the dryer blew air out...it did. And since IAS had cleaned my air vents, I knew the type of work he did.  He came out and not only cleaned my dryer ventilation, but he replaced the bent/over flexed dryer hose with one that was recommended for its ability to maintain its shape.

"Our water heater needed to be replaced and this was my first Angie's List purchase.  $600 for installation including a 40-50 gallon name brand water heater plus they will take away the old one.  We initially wanted to consider a tankless water heater but the price was right and we needed this completed fairly soon as we were on borrowed time.  Just do it, right?  We did and it was completed.  I asked what brand water heater and I researched the brand with negative satisfaction results.  I was not happy but I already bought the offer.  The technician replaced our water heater with a 40 gallon AO Smith brand which was exactly the brand I wanted.  I am happy for that but he wanted an extra $250 for a permit and straps.  Shouldn't that be part of the installation?  My husband made a call to Angie's List and voila, all of the sudden, no extra fee!  But also no permit or straps.  THANK YOU, ANGIE'S LIST!  However.  Is our water heater within code without a permit and without straps?  We don't know but wedo have hot water."

He understood exactly what I wanted, and was able to quickly and accurately determine what supplies would be needed and the cost of his labor. If you don't want to buy the supplies, he will purchase them for you, then let you reimburse him. He has experience in practically every area of home improvement, from flooring to plumbing to painting and sheetrock. I've hired him several times to do retiling in my bathroom shower, repairing holes in sheetrock, hanging and wiring a dining room light fixture, and putting up curtain rods. I then recommended him to my cousin, who lives in Red Rock Country Club, to build an outdoor barbecue for her. She was also very pleased. My next project is to landscape my back yard, and Melby will be doing it. He came by for an initial consultation, and told me in what order we would need to complete each step. He will be installing my sprinkler system, pouring concrete for the patio, and making a retaining border for my shrubs and flower beds. There isn't much that this man can't do! He's incredibly capable for being so young.
