Kevin had to return 7/21/2014 because one of the new GFCI's was frequently tripping.  It had to be replaced.  I'm not sure how old  or what the quality of the replacements were that he used end of May, but that seems pretty fast for one to start tripping.  The originals were in the house for 9.5 years.  So I question the quality of his work and certainly the exorbitant price for what he had to do.  As important to me is he doesn't have any regard for his client's time.   He makes an appointment but then wants to change it on that day for his convenience with no regard for the client's time.  I put up with this on 5/29; but on 7/21, I was having a computer networking problem and on the phone with a technician.  When I made the appointment, I was specific with Kevin that this was a very busy week for me  and said only between 3 and 4 pm.  A few hours before the designated time, while I was on with the technician, I picked up call waiting and it was Kevin.  I told him to call me back because I was tied up with a computer technician.  So instead of doing that, Kevin showed up at my front door to do the work a few hours early; and I had to hang up with the computer technician.  Everyone knows how hard it is to do that because you never get back with the same technician and wind up going through the process again with someone new.  I cannot do business with someone who doesn't respect/honor my time.  My schedule is packed; and when I make an appointment, I expect a professional to honor it.  So I'm pretty unhappy with his price, quality of the parts he uses and disregard for my time.

"I couldn't be more pleased (although the price might have been just a bit high for the time the job actually took). The owner responded to my initial emailed inquiries almost immediately, and I was able to schedule an appointment less than 48 hours later. The technicians, Nestor and Travis, called me about one-half hour before they arrived and were extremely punctual. "It was easy. No one came to my house. I answered their questions. Those answers provided them with what they needed to send me a DIY system to arm my home. Everything was explained and all seemed simple until I got the kit. Nothing was wrong with the kit, however, I was nervous that I would not line up door and window sensors correctly. Afterwards, I could not figure out why I was so hesitant and nervous. I have tripped the alarmed, was quickly contacted and false alarm cancelled."

I responded to an ad for a $99 ADT alarm installation and ended up buying a $1900 system. My monthly monitoring fee doubled to $56 a month. It does include smoke and fire monitoring which the previous system didn't. System was installed on time. But I now have a re-occurring fault with the front door sensor. This coming Thursday will be the 5th time Protect Your Home will be attempting to fix the same problem. I called ADT to get a billing adjustment, and they told me I have to call back after the service call to request an adjustment. Strange, but even I (at 70-years old) can get to the alarm history and see the number of faults that have occurred over the past 8-10 weeks.

After foolishly signing a 2-year contract, I found all of the alarm equipment could be purchased at Radio Shack for 1/3 to 1/2 the price ADT charges. It appears the alarm companies are primarily interested in selling alarm systems and monitoring contracts; all of the actual monitoring is done by computer.

The service calls are easy to make and the response time is pretty good, but I'm tired of getting service for the same problem with no relief from ADT.

My advice is to shop around for alarm systems, especially for the monitoring contracts. Beware of the fine print that automatically renews your contract unless you proactively cancel during the last month.
