"Purchased a 1906 home in North Portland with an uneven foundation that had been patched for 60 years, but needed serious stabilization work. I contacted multiple foundation contractors in the greater-Portland area and Ram Jack was the only team that provided a full worse-case estimate that included everything that I may need to permanently stabilize the home's foundation. Other contractors' estimates were higher, omitted some of the features of Ram Jack's estimate, and involved greater excavation work around the home. While I was collecting estimates, I had multiple contractors check the levels on the house and could see the home was continuing to sink as much as half and inch in some areas within only a few months, so I knew I had to do something soon as the hotter summers are causing significant erosion to the clay soil in north portland. After paying the 50% down payment, I was quickly in touch with multiple project managers and structural engineers who were able to answer my questions as the work plan developed. I work from home and have two cats, so I was a bit worried about the noise and needing to leave at certain times during the work. Ramjack devised a plan of installing 12 helical piers from the basement and 2 outside for a small crawl space area as well as replacing most of the piers in the basement that had water damage. During the excavation and pier installation, I didn't have to leave my house at all, my cats were fine, none of the utilities ever needed to be turned off and none of the neighbors said they heard more than the hum of the generator outside; insane professionalism. The work team kept me informed at every step of the excavation and pier installation and was able to recover an inch of lift with only a few drywall cracks that I patched in a day. I could have gone further, but wanted to avoid any potential damage to the sewer pipes and stay within my budget. During the lifting, I was standing with the lead construction manager who kept me informed of every risk as we lifted the house bit by bit. During the excavation my basement looked insane with mounds of dirt everywhere, but the construction team cleaned everything flawlessly; all I had to do was a quick mop and the basement was good as new again. Overall had a great experience with RamJack; the 20 years in business shows, most everyone I dealt with had been working with them for years; the construction manager had been doing pier installation for 15 years. The work was expensive, but cheaper than the other local contractors, and certainly way cheaper than replacing the entire basement foundation. Ramjack was even able to take a few grand off the intitial worse-case estimate for solutions not needed. Glad I was able to repair my 120 year old home; here's to another 100 years. "After being impressed by a concrete project in our neighborhood (a driveway and a bit more), we hired The Wall for a large project that entailed replacing several deteriorating areas in our own yard: a lower patio and adjacent retaining wall; our driveway; and a set of stairs connecting the driveway and patio. By and large, The Wall team and the work they did were top notch. We had a skilled, dedicated crew that stayed on our job from start to finish. There were no gaps in the timeline because they had to attend to other clients; our project moved very efficiently and significant progress was made each day. The team was thoughtful, considerate and very careful not to damage our plants or other belongings. The crew’s focus, expertise and collaboration with each other were a joy to watch. As with most projects there were small hiccups along the way but these were relatively few and promptly resolved. The most challenging aspect of our experience: in hindsight, there were design details regarding our stairs that probably could’ve/should’ve been more clearly defined and formally agreed upon (between us and The Wall) - prior to fabrication. And, not fatal but inconsistent with the beautiful work on most of the project: some of the concrete finishing or clean-up wasn’t on par with bulk of the job. Small inconsistently textured areas or little blips of concrete from one pour overlapping seams from a separate pour are two examples. All in all: pretty consistently great end results from a company we’d use again."

"I first contacted Todd in March. I spoke with him and a few other firms. He was not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. I read the reviews on Angies and chose him despite one somewhat negative one, which I mentioned to him. Todd is a great and extensive talker and his explanations seemed reasonable as did his description of what he would do to my driveway. That included removal, adding compacted gravel, and when we asked for it, rebar, cutting a clean line at the street and creating a neat transition between the street and the driveway. When we discussed how I wanted a different color for the pathway than the driveway, he said he would do the integrated color, but that a stain might be cheaper. He did end up doing a stain, though there was no reduction in price. I took him to a driveway in my neighborhood to show him how I wanted the finished job to look and he seemed very knowledgable and told he it would be no problem. <br /> <br /> I became uneasy when he kept delaying the start of demo because of a lack of a dump truck (an extra charge for me, not included in the original bid). Finally they started, Todd, another worker and his girlfriend. It turned out that he did not need to add the compacted gravel, but when I asked for a credit he told me that he had to haul away so much dirt that he would have charged me for that so no credit. I had foolishly thought the removal of the old driveway included hauling the debris. In the process of digging out the new driveway\path my underground sprinkler was cut. Over the years tree roots had wound around the sprinkler line, making repair difficult. Also in removing the river rock Todd removed a great deal of soil and it had to be replaced. Initially when he broke the sprinkler line, he told me it was no problem he would repair it, which I expected, because in the course of initial discussions he assured me he would leave everything looking good. <br /> <br /> When the he tried to cut a clean line between the street and the drive, it crumbled. I'm not sure why though he told me it was because the street was old. I think it was perhaps he didn't use a saw. He seems to have a lack of proper equipment. To create a transition between the street and the driveway, Todd used cold patch asphalt, which looked dreadful. I called him and he told me that it would look better over time and that he did it as a favor to me. Also as a favor to me he brought some dirt from his home and did a poor job of replacing some concrete pavers that had been removed in the course of the work. I did myself a favor and called in a professional asphalt company who removed the bad asphalt job and did it right. I also called in my hardscape guy who fixed the pavers and filled in the areas of missing dirt. <br /> <br /> It turned out Todd wanted to be paid for the sprinkler repair and couple buckets of dirt, I told him I wasn't happy with the price and we reached a compromise. <br /> <br /> I was unable to be home when Todd came to seal the driveway, but I had called and told him there were marks on the driveway from when he stained the path and put in his asphalt patch. He assured me he would clean it all away. After the sealing the marks were still there. They are not terribly noticeable, but what is very noticeable is the 2 inch chunk that broke off a corner by one of the cuts. This occurred yesterday, less than a month after final completion. Todd came by to pick up the final check and took a look at it, blamed the nature of concrete and the kind of cut. I might even be to blame for gluing a piece back in place. He said he could fix it with a patch but it wouldn't look the same. <br /> <br /> After having paid so much for this job I have to say I regret not just doing asphalt again. My driveway doesn't have the polished, professional look of the driveway I had taken him to see. Todd is a nice young man, but he hurries, doesn't pay attention to detail, blames everything else when there is a problem. I never felt that doing the best job for me and making sure I was satisfied was his top priority. It is too bad really, because I think he has the skills to be excellent. <br />"

"I interviewed and received bids from five of the top Angie's List picks for concrete work in the Portland area. The quote from Ron at All About Concrete & Masonry was in the middle of the prices the various vendors estimated. Our decision to hire All About Concrete & Masonry was heavily influenced by the obvious skill and attention to detail Ron brought when he surveyed our site. As business owners who are not concrete or construction professionals, we needed someone who could evaluate our development goals and then give us informed, experience-based, professional opinions about our options. Ron did just that. Additionally, of the five vendors we spoke with at our site, Ron was the only one whom we felt clearly understood our requirements and would do the job right the first time. Our project was not a typical concrete construction project. We needed concrete floors poured in an existing building over a damaged and unsuitable older foundation. Our project also required the concrete floor be formed with precisely spaced and sized gaps so we could later install flush-to-the-floor steel tracks for a mobile industrial rack system. We also required installation of floor drains with plumbing to route waste water to specific areas. Following this, we required construction of a rebar-reinforced concrete vault of approximately 10'w x 14'l x 8'h dimensions with a commercial steel entry door. Ron came out with a crew and spent a day taking very careful measurements which were then discussed and verified carefully with me. Over the next two weeks, Ron and his crew came daily and poured the floors and then built the vault. In the end, everything was done exactly as well or better than we had hoped. Ron also took the time to educate me on the concrete curing process and discussed maintenance and other items specific to our project (such as where power would go, etc.). Based on discussions we'd had prior to the commencement of work for future phases, Ron took the time to make sure we could easily connect the work he performed with our planned next stages. Ron and his team were very polite and easy to work with. We had zero problems. The highest praise I can give anyone is to hire them again. Our project is ongoing and we are completely confident that Ron will do the next stages just as well as he's done the first. If you are looking for an experienced concrete professional with reasonable prices who does outstanding work, I strongly recommend All About Concrete & Masonry."
