"Jose was friendly and professional. My job was not considered large by any means (re-hanging a gate) but he completed it in short order and cleaned up after himself. I really appreciated the fact he wanted to insure I was satisfied with the work because he needed to cut an inch off of the gate.....which I was. I would certainly call him again."

"We are very happy with them so far. They are very professional and timely. The subcontractors they use are all first class. They show up on time and work the full day. We would use them again."

"He is very in demand because he's so reasonable, so sometimes it can be difficult to get in touch with him. He's very professional and listens to you. He makes the extra effort to get the exact paint color you want. He has very good and honest employees that are prompt. His bid was the lowest of the 3 that I'd gotten, but he was top-notch. I would and have recommended him to others."

"Francis Alwill General Contractor had a bit of an attitude. He seemed to deem us a waste of his time. My client was a little taken aback by the guy and wrote him an email. They had some kind of email exchange of some kind going on. He never gave us a quote. He said it was too much work for him to give us a quote. He wouldn't even give us an estimate. He said to get the project approved and then he might be able to do the work if he had time."

"From the moment we contacted them until the job was done they kept us informed and were very helpful.  The inspector and his crew who showed up to do the inspection were very punctual and professional.  They explained everything so that we understood what the problem was, and what the treatment entailed.  We are very satisfied with their services. <br />"

"The smoothest move I have ever had, with the least difficulty. The items from my home were loaded on a truck by two guys who delivered the same truckload of furniture to my new house in socal and unloaded it. No loading and unloading and losing items. My move was smooth and trouble free . I have read so many horror stories on line that I was anxious about who to hire. This was the best choice by far, no problems at all, great company!"

"This was our first remodel and after being referred to George at Gallery Home Design we finally found someone we liked and trusted to do our master bathroom remodel and all new flooring in the whole house. The initial meeting went great and he took the time to listen to our ideas as well as discuss options we had not considered. His service was outstanding and his attention to detail made all the difference. The project stayed on time and on budget. The install team was professional and did an amazing job. The finished product turned out absolutely gorgeous and we could not be happier about our finished dream bathroom and new flooring through the whole house. If you are hesitant like I was, I highly recommend George from Gallery Home Design for your project, as he will now be our first call when we are ready to do our kitchen as well as the kids and guest baths. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Carmel Valley, CA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
