"Mike came out for an estimate based on mold sighting during my home inspection and was very friendly explaining everything he would do as part of the service and information about thier warranty and product. He came back about a week later to treat the infected area (attic) and even asked about the basement and took a peek to make sure it also was not a problem, which he confirmed wasn't. Mike followed up to verify that all of the mold was killed a week later and followed up a second time by phone. He also advised me to look into venting my attic sometime in the future to improve overall air quality. I would and did recommend Mike to other people and use him again in the future."

"Greg was very personable and very thorough in his home inspection. He gave good advice on home maintenance, showed us how things worked and answered all of our questions in a way we could understand. He emailed us a report immediately upon completion of the inspection. I would recommend him and would not hesitate to use him again."

"We did not end up getting a home inspection, because the sellers backed out of our contract. But Ian helped us work through asbestos issues related to the home and the contract and was knowledgeable and offered incredible professional services. He was kind and very nice to work with."

"We hired Jay to do a complete inspection of the septic tank and system for a building we are purchasing.  He is unbelievable!  <br /> He started by locating the septic tank clean out plugs and snaking a small camera system down the pipes to see what the condition of the system was.  After only a few minutes he identified a few potential problems and completely explained what his concerns were.  He then found the cover to the septic system and dug it out so he could remove it and see the condition of the tank.  After that, he continued to trace the system to the distribution box, which he also dug out. <br /> I would gladly recommend Jay - he was thorough in his inspection and he explained the whole process to me.  Additionally, he provided a report the next day by email with pictures and detailed descriptions of the inspection and his recommendations for items to correct. <br />"

"David was waiting for us at 8:30 am after we had contacted him the day before, already impressive. He went to work going through every room, turning on every switch, tap, flushing every toilet, photographing and diagnosing. His meticulous work, documented in a comprehensive online report complete with photos, was used by us to help contractors provide estimates for remediation. More immediately, the fact that he provided documentation of mold in the attic, due to improper venting, plus radon in the basement, meant we were able to force the seller to fix these prior to contract, saving us well over 3X his fee. His work is so thorough it can be used as a scope of work for making your house new again."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Catskill, NY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
